Navy Nurse Candidate Program Summer 2013
The NCP is for (BSN) nursing school students. Are you an ADN right now going for BSN? There were a couple of people at ODS with me who did that. If this is the case, I think just getting a certification in a certain unit is the most beneficial thing you can do. I don't think PALS/ACLS really does much for you as far as your package goes since the navy puts you through these classes if you are on a unit where they are needed. People who are ICU nurses, or ED nurses or oncology nurses etc. probably have so much better of a chance getting into those units off the bat which would be very nice. So if you are on a unit working as an RN while getting your BSN try to get any kind of credentials you can on that particular unit. Might help, or it might not haha

What age did you complete your BSN or ASN?
BSN at 29

NAVY - Can someone help figure this out?
I know the NCP is very competitive, but I'm pretty sure they weed out most people simply by making them jump through hoops. I started my packet almost a year before I was finally accepted. There was a ton of paperwork, trips to the Doctor to get waivers for my lasik surgery, more trips to the doctor for waivers for my lasik surgery, and a few more trips haha. Trips for MEPS, trips for navy interviews (you may not have to do this, I did because there is not a naval station close to here) Finally I got the call that my packet was accepted and I had an oath date set. Just keep doing what they ask you to do even though at times you will feel like you want to scream :) I don't have a 4.0 and have no formal supervisory experience but I still made the cut :) So don't give up on the NCP!

Buying a car for nursing school
I don't think of interest as just giving money to a bank. I think of interest as a big ol thankyou for allowing me to buy a good car that has a good warranty that will last me for many years. Glass half full

The military is moving my family!
Not that I am aware of. When my husband was in I got 3 years into a premed degree at ASU and when we moved to South Dakota I had to switch to a Biology degree and although my credits "transferred", they transferred as a whole bunch of electives. If the line numbers are not right on, a registrar will not transfer the class as another class (bio 211 will not transfer as bio 215 even if they are the same class technically) If you feel that you have a class that should count as another you usually have to talk to the professor that teaches the class and they will personally look at the syllabus for the class you took and sign off telling the registrar to go ahead and accept it. So it might take some work, but you shouldn't have to redo everything and may not have to redo anything :) However, most schools require that your last 60 credits or so have been taken through them in order to graduate so depending on how many credits you have left to take, that may be an issue.

Buying a car for nursing school
I bought a brand new diesel Jetta in March 2012. It is expensive but getting ~45mpg in a car that actually has power is great. It's also not a car that I will want to junk as soon as I start getting a bigger paycheck... I say buy a car that you want that you can afford. I don't really care how long I finance something for as long as the terms are good. Over the life of the loan (6 years) I am paying like 3000 in interest which in the grand scheme of things just doesn't matter to me. But some people would rather die than pay interest lol. To each their own :)

Navy NCP FY2014 'Role call'
Nope, you have to have between 12 and 24 months of nursing school left when you apply so you are right at the beginning :)

Navy Nurse Candidate Program Summer 2013
Sorry, but what do you mean by "1 year of scholarship"? Are they paying for school now to?

Navy Nurse Candidate Program Summer 2013
I don't know if they looked at my cumulative GPA or my nursing GPA. I have a 3.4 cumulative and I think like a 3.8 nursing. I have a previous degree so they may have focused on the nursing but I'm not sure. Either way, I think a 3.6 is awesome :)

New to Navy, ODS, Portsmouth-need any help?
A girl in my class missed the cut off for the NCP and went through my recruiter to look into a commission after getting her license. He told her that for this fiscal year there are no spots for current nurses. So she won't be able to do anything until next October when they find out what fiscal year 2015 looks like for spots. So before you worry to much about anything I would call a recruiter and see if this information is true. If it is true it might actually be a year or two before you could put in an application. Like I said though, this is like 3rd hand information so you might want to check it :)

Navy NCP FY2014 'Role call'
I just want a big busy hospital where I can hopefully learn the most. I'm doing my clinicals at an Air Force base clinic right now and it's pretty slow. I don't know much about any Navy bases and wasn't sure which ones had good hospitals lol so I put the big 3

A&P II before A&P I ?
Generally, if AP1 was a prereq to AP2 the system wouldn't even let you register for it without written approval from the teacher (which the person registering you usually does not have the authority to override). If 1 is not a prereq for 2 then it's pretty safe to say that they do not build and it's fine to take them out of sequence. My school did not have A&P but rather had a semester of anatomy and a semester of physiology. It would have been VERY helpful for me to take anatomy before physiology which is the order they were supposed to be taken in, but I took physiology first and anatomy second and made it through alive. Just know that you might have the teacher reference some things that they know was taught in 1 assuming that everyone had already learned it. Just take that in stride.
