West Coast University?

Published

I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!

Yeah the reason I am not going there.

Really nice school though...the classrooms etc was nice.

The tuition and the fact that it's not regionally accredited turned me off from WCU. Oh well! The search continues...:)

116000????? Lord. I was going to go there for their LVN to RN, and I got turned off by the 45k they wanted because tehy wanted to me to repeat 1/2 my prereqs which were 5 1/2 years old.. I found a program for 10 k less that tok half the time because they accepted my prereqs...but I had to move.

I can't understand why anyone would spend that much money. Especially when they were as disorganized as they were when I talked to them.

hey i was just wondering what program did you find other then westcoast. the one that required you to move. im in the same position. i have all my pre reqs, i finished lvn school, but the cost of west coast somewhat scares me. any information about the school you mentioned would be appreciated. thanks.

Hello,How are you doing in your classes at West Coast University.I wish I had seen this sooner.I have been accepted into their program but needed to know since they are not NLN approved that it would decrease my chances for working.Do you know what hospitals have hired West Coast graduates.Thank you for posting your comments.

I am currently attending at West Coast University and I think I am liking it. I had few subject that credited and sure help to lower the cost. I like the way that I don't have to wait to be in the program. For the past 2 years I have been waiting in community college. First I decided to stop working and be fulltime student. Apparently I have lost 50,000 up annual income for 2 years and still haven't done close to the program. then I decided to go to WCU. The class is 10 weeks each term, depending on the subjects you took or not. if you need to take all the subject it will take you 18months. You meet once a week for 3 unit subject and meet twice for major sciences. it is tough because it is fast track. But instructors are very helpful. Sometimes you get frustrated with few instructors or system. but I dont think that there are flawless schools out there. I have been doing good so far as long as I keep track on my readings and reviewing ( which we must do anyway). I met some of the nurses that graduated there and they all pass it the first time. So far I am liking the way it is. I don't have to think of getting in the program, buying book ( financially because it is inclusive), not worry of getting the subject I need because you have aspace alloted for you only and most of all you get to talk to the instructor. I have seem collegues working full time and yet going to school. so it can happen. WCU is a good school but it all depends also to student itself.

i graduated last august 08 and currently working in 2 hospitals. Most of my classmates in my batch have no problem getting a job. In fact, as a WCU graduate, got them a better chance of getting hired. This is for the reason that student of WCU got a good reputation in clinical wise. St Vincent medical hospital is one of the hospitals that love WCU. I dont know about the NLN, as far as I know I passed my boards and so is the rest of 63 students in my class. We passed it in first try. Goodluck. Hope this answers your question.:nurse:

Is anyone in the straight BSN program at WCU? It was supposed to start this month. I'm curious to find out how its going in their program and how hard was it to financially secure financial aid and/or loans?

Thanks :yeah:

Prereqs are taken regardless of how old they were & its 9 months long

You have to have IV cert though, and tehy're very new still, so not quite so organized.

kithzeez,

i am currently looking to start wcu in february and i was just wondering how much did you end up paying (if its not to personal a question, sorry)? im have all my pre-reqs minus the bio-chem, and also how intense was the program for you? did you have a hard time getting volunteer hours? was that even required when you were there? i hope that you passed and all is well, congrats!!!

all in all i have $45,000 thats bcoz i have prereqs. when i started the price was 60,000. i had no regrets of enrolling at west coast. sometime frustations sets but you get that in any school. wcu is a fast track and very intense but it is doable. when i did my term 7 that was the time because it was the psych, ob , ped. busy busy busy. paper works and community hours. i never had a hard time getting community hours because they give you list of facilities that you can do. it was in advance that i had a hard time because they require 15 hours and most of the outpatient surgery is 5hrs max, so you have to go back 3x. plus 4 careplan, drug paperwork, presentation, 3pages of article critique, plus 12hr of clinical. at the same time you have every week specialty hesi.. and on the 8th week is you exit hesi. again it is hard but you can do it, if you are dedicated with your studies!!! i was very dedicated because of the cost i guess.:D

Thank you so much for your valuable information.I wish you the best in your career. That is great news.Once again I wish you the best.
