West Coast University?

Published

I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!

When does the next session begin at WC for straight BSN?

Hi Cabo2341,

The student adviser said the next session starts April 09 but seats are filled quickly so the sooner you pass the entrance exam and get the financial piece squared away the better. I'm still doing some hard thinking bcuz of the tuition... :banghead:

Thats alot of money. Does it include everything. Pre recs, books, uniform, and supplies?

I did not confirm this but I have read on a previous thread that it does include books & all required pre-recs but not sure about uniforms & supplies. I will ask when I go back on the 18th for the entrance exam and will post an update. Any current students/alumni that can confrim what is inclusive in the $116k for the BSN program?

That is a LOT of money. Why not do the ADN there and then get your BSN later on at a job that will pay for it? You could even do it online with some schools. it's not necessarily as quick, but that is an awful lot of money. I could be wrong but the student loans I got at the private school for my ADN have to be paid off in 10 years, and if they're private they're usually around 8 -9%

Loan Interest Rate: 8.00%

Loan Term: 10 years

Monthly Loan Payment:$1,407.40

Number of Payments: 120

Cumulative Payments: $168,888.02

Total Interest Paid: $52,888.02

Just something to think about, even at 20 years at 5% is 770 a month and 10k more interest total than the first!

Forget a house payment when you're paying that off for the next twenty years!

Good luck in whatever you decide

Hi Nickilaughs,

Gosh, that is quite a bite...thank you for taking the time for the visual. It really helped paint the BIG picture. I am still checking into my local colleges to at least get the pre-reqs done. Wish me luck...

i have another question for you that are going to WCU. My husband took his nCLEX pn exam two weeks ago....he thinks he failed computer turned off at 85 and about 40 of those questions were on meds he's never heard of...anyway...

do any of you know if he can enroll at WCU while still taking classes at a community college? He would take the chemistry and math classes. I know he has to have the LVN licence to attend the lvn to adn program....do you guys know if people have failed w/ 85 questions?

WOW!! I can't believe the program at West Coast for straight BSN fills up quick! Especially for $116??? I would love to hear feedback from the students who started this program in November, 2008.

-How's it going so far?

zerovero,

You do have to have your LVN license before you can start the program at WCU, but you cant take classes at a JC and be in their program. They start you at whatever pre-req you are missing. For instance if you need math and chem, they will start you there. You are not allowed to start the core nursing classes or even the transition class before ALL pre-reqs are completed. Hope this information helps.

karmarene,

the hubby passed the nclex pn exam. just found out today!!!!!!!!!! so now we are getting ready to go see west coast people!!! any advice?

First of all, CONGRATS to the hubby!!!! :yeah:

Um, I dont think that there is really any advice I can give at this point. Just that if he has any pre-req's take transcripts to help reduce the amount of the tuition. Make sure you ask ALOT of questions so that you understand everything. If he takes the entrance hesi, tell him to pace himself because its long, not hard. Its the first meeting so just make sure you ask every question you can think of and please do share if you get any info that we might not know on here. I have completed my FA yet, so do tell what the tuition is when you know.... Thanks and Good Luck!!!
