West Coast University?

Published

I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!

Thank you so much for your valuable information.I wish you the best in your career. That is great news.Once again I wish you the best.

YOU ARE VERY WELCOME. Goodluck on your career, whatever you decide. make sure you put your heart into it. For sure you will never go wrong. Us nurses are good with our intuition... :) We teach and care... thats what us nurses do best!!!

kithzeez,

thank you so much for all of your input. im leaning more and more towards them everyday. i have taken the entrance hesi and met with fa. i just decided to go through a jc to finish my pre-reqs since it would be cheaper and save me some money. ill be done by the time classes start again in feb. hopefully all goes well and i am able to start then. time is money and with the way the economy is shaping up, i better get a move on. plus, i dont have any kids or a husband, so i guess i better do this while its easy for me.... btw, is it impossible to work while doing the program? im self-supported. any notes or books that you have that you think will be of use to me, i will be more than happy to buy them from you (if you dont mind). thank you so much again for all your help...

oh good!!! you can still work even if you are in the program already but mind you it is hard. term 5 is the transition. you can work there bcoz the clinical is in school and it is still less work. and if you took microbiology then you will only be doing 1 subject in ten weeks. i do not know term6, i heard they are changing the subject. you might have meds surge and ob. it all really depends on you on how grasp things. i can sell you my books but i dunno if they are changing it. warn you too that some books i bought. i barely opened it. it is still new. you can email privately:wink2:

work? i did not work in the whole process but i have classmates that do work fulltime (one was a mother of 5 with 2yr old twins and still working full time) and yet she manages to be a cum laude. we have one that is young, everything is paid for by parents and still repeated the course 3x. what i am saying is that, it all depends on the person on how determined you are and how serious the person is. good luck!!! just email me privately and i will gladly help you out in any way i can.

um, im sorry. im very new to this and i dont have a clue how to send you a private message....:smackingf

oh okay. thanks.

i didn't know that either. Sorry.

kithzeez,

i'm a pre-nursing student at a CSU up north and i am debating if whether or not i should do the generic BSN program at WCU. my logic is that i would be able to graduate a lot quicker (a little over 3 years compared to 5 and half at the CSU i am currently at, that is if i get into the nursing program the first time i apply.) I'm trying to weigh our the pro's and cons of this and was hoping you would be able to help me out here since you are an alumni.

my options right now are as follows:

1. Stay at CSU and hope i get into nursing program in 2 years when i apply and possibly graduate in 5.5 years

or

2. Go to WCU which would reserve a spot for me and i would be graduating in a little over 3 years.

that is really tough. If you are debating about the cost. It is overwhelming but I think in my opinion, if you 2 years are cut off in your schooling, you are probably working for 2 years and making money. where us in CSU you still not sure when will you get in to the program. the price in WCU books are inclusive. I am not sure what is the generic BSN. From what I understand is that, generic is something you started with and LVN and graduate an ADN which WCU also offers. But the BSN is straight all the way. weigh everything. Plus if you are approved for the loan. you will not be paying till you graduate. hope that helps

mind you, that when you graduate, Kaplan review is also inclusive with the price you pay. that is $600+ inclusive. so all you have to think about is gas in your car, food, and brain. :)

Hello, I'm a newby that has finally decided to pursue a career in nursing placed in the back burner for over 10yrs. Wish I would've acted on it years earlier but better late then never. I have met with a student advisor at West Coast University in Anaheim yesterday and have made an appt for the entrance exam next week. Needless to say, the jaw-dropping $116k  for their BSN program because I only have a high school diploma is giving me 2nd thoughts. I have tried looking for other alternatives thru other schools to cut the cost but am hearing there are waiting lists & lottos at just about every school (Cal State/JC). With no pre-regs to transfer I find that my options are pretty limited as I want to finish with a BSN as little time as possible (& 3yrs is not bad at all) so I can start my nursing journey. Any current students at the Anaheim facility that can offer any advice/experiences about the BSN program and if $116k is well worth it? Or are there other less costly options that I am unaware of? Any one out there floating in the same boat as mine?
