Specializes in Medical/Surgical.

Well I can't speak for others but my life during school was super busy. I attended a 4 yr BSN program and the first 2 yrs were just classes. The last 2 years were full of clinical rotations and I was BUSY. I had clinical days twice a week Tues/Thurs. The times varied depending if it was morning or evening clinical. I would be up as early as 4:30 am sometimes to take the school shuttle or public trans to get to our assigned hospitals in the city and would not get back to my apt until 5pm sometimes. Those days were so draining. The rest of the week MWF I had lecture class and then I also went home and worked the weekends as a PCT/student tech.

For me I usually studied MWF when I was in my "school" mode. There was so much reading for each class! MWF I studied b/c after clinicals and work...I was so tired and never wanted to do anything! I was always trying to catch up on my sleep...but I still had time to participate in club activities etc. At the same time I definitely didn't feel like I had that great of a social life either. My boyfriend and family definitely helped me through.

So it really depends on what you decide to do. I personally thrive on a busy lifestyle as it keeps me on my toes. It sounds like a lot but if you are able to balance things like work, school, family, friends, and make it work. It will be good practice for when you become a nurse and are balancing all the crazy things that can happen to you on your shift!!

Hope this helps and good luck to you! :balloons:

Hey there,

I am in a BSN program and am currently taking 16 credit hrs (4 courses). On Mon and Wed I'm in class from 12-6; on Tues from 12-4; on Thurs from 8-4 and on Thurs evening I go to the hospital for a few hours to prepare for clinicals on Friday (gather patient's labs and other information) and then I have to go home and do some more clinical preparation by looking up medications which is then all entered on a clinical prep form that I will take to the hospital on Fri ; On Fri I'm in clinicals from 7:30-11:30. Next quarter clinicals will be all day long.

In addition, On Fri, Sat, and Sun, I work 3rd shift which is 11p-7a.

Clinical Monday 7-4 come home cook dinner, help kids with homework, put kids to bed, do my homework/study. Tues the same thing. Wed off from school, catch up on housework and read and study. Thur class 9-3, come home cook, help kids with homework. Do my homework study.

Fridays school 9-3 come home cook, eat, go to work 12 hours, yes NO SLEEP.

But last year

I always made sure that my home work was done the day it was assigned. I read every reading assignment that was given to us from beginning to end. I tried to get all my papers done when the assignment was first given to us and not to procrastinate. I always tried to feep my weekends homework free unless I had a test on Monday. I did homework immediately after school on monday through friday and would not allow myself to do anything else until it was complete. And boy let me tell you did I enjoy homework-free weekends. No one else understood how I did it. But it definitely kept me sane.

ABSN student here, semester 2/5 but first of clinicals

M: class 7:30/8 (we come in early if we have an exam) - 4

T: off - study, laundry, errands, etc.

W: clinical 6:30-2ish, come home, attempt to study

R: class 7:30/8 - 2:30, come home, attempt to study

F: work 10-4, usually do something w/my husband Fri night

Sa: work 10-6, come home, study

Su: off - study all day long, but slightly less intensely with TV on

I also cook all the meals at my house - except my husband occasionally grills on Sundays - and do all the laundry and shopping. The house is never clean, since I'm too busy and he's one of those guys who always throws his pants, socks, etc. on the living room floor. I don't have any kids, but only a few people in my program actually do. I am planning on quitting my job in the very near future - I'm a bartender, and that maybe $200/week I make is getting to be less and less worth it as I get more and more tired and stressed. Also, our clinical days will increase each semester, but we don't get our patients until morning of so there's no prep to do the night before. We do our care plans and stuff later.
