I'm sure many of you remember the thread I started about wearing whites and my nursing cap again? Well, tomorrow is the day I wear whites and cap in celebration of my 16 years of being a nurse. I'm doing it for ME...no one else...just for me because I feel like I could use the reminder of what it was like to don that uniform and hat on a day that made me proud to call myself somebody's nurse.
No, it is NOT in the uniform that I am a nurse. It is in my mind and heart. It is in my approach to my profession. I simply wish to honor my achievement and success as a nurse even if there are "certain someones on my current unit at work" that may beg to differ. They don't pay my bills, they weren't there to receive my nursing pin or degree, they weren't there when I struggled with the subject matter of a nursing class in college, they weren't there for any of what matters to me the most. Therefore.........tomorrow I will celebrate ME...the Nurse...whom I am very proud of because I've walked through shick to get to where I am today, and only God knows how truly stinky that schick really was for me to overcome. :kiss
May your days shine brighter---and not just from the shine from your whites I'll be picturing you in your whites today Renee.
Remember: It's what's INSIDE of us that really counts.
Defineately decided to wear my cap and whites for Nurse Week next year to remind me of where I came from after reading your posts (office postion). Will try and get the other Home Health Clinical Managers to wear their caps since many 25+ years in profession.
Good for you, Renee. I hope you get loads of compliments.
I might add, there are more than nurses and lab techs who wear white.
What about the vision of Jesus and the saints who are clothed in white.
I'm definitely certain that WHITE with hat if possible, is a very appropriate color for nurses, as the dedicated ones also give of themselves to serving others in their desperate times of need, putting others' concerns above their own.
I for one, am proud to be a nurse, and feel that every dedicated nurse like Renee should be proud of the color that represents purity.
The hospital where I'm doing clinical now requires all RN's to wear white. I think that's a good thing.
I work as a Unit Secretary in a hospital where I'm required to wear scrubs, people always think I'm a nurse (I secretly like when that happens ). Anyway, it's confusing when everyone looks the same.
I think it is a great idea and cannot wait to go buy myself a new white uniform,I might even make it a dress(won't that start a lot of talk) I was away from nursing for 17 years while I stayed home to be mommy, and I am appalled at the lack of respect new grads have for themselves and their profession as evidenced by the uniforms they wear.IN MY DAY.....we wore white uniforms, stockings, and shoes. Please tell us how your patients respond
First, thanks for paint the bobby pin white with white out and polish with clear polish idea, P_RN! Never thought of that clever idea! :kiss
Okay guys and gals........The patients LOVED...I mean LOVED...did I say LOVED my white uniform and nurse cap! It was a BIG BIG hit among the patients, ESPECIALLY the elderly! Even the "other" hospital staff complimented me on wearing my whites and cap. The cap was most significant to the patients. They all told me, especially the elderly, that they felt "safe and secure" with a nurse who wore "white and nurse cap" because to them it made them feel as if they were in "very good hands". Awwwwww...what a great day I had wearing my white uniform and cap. It made my patients day, and therefore, that made my day.
I only heard one young rn say "I'll knock that hat right off her head." She did not know that I heard her say that to the other nurses around her. I strutted tall and proud, and knew that she was only jealous that I was bold enough to wear my white uniform and nurse cap. She is way too young to experience that. She's barely 22, and a new nurse. I forgive her "youthful ignorance" as to the respect that white uniform and white cap always got and what a hit it STILL is with patients, especially the elderly, and I take care of a LOT of elderly patients.
The other nurses on the floor were speechless. It was almost like a solemn reverance around me the entire day. One nurse in her early thirties said she always wanted to wear white and a nurse cap but her school never did. She said she is going to buy her a nurse cap and start wearing her whites. I think I've started nurses thinking (some anyway) to the "power of the white uniform and nurse cap) and its popularity around the patients.
I even had a few nice looks from the docs. One actually spoke to me without my even speaking to him first. Now aint THAT a miracle! :chuckle
Unfortunately, I only have that one white uniform. So until I get paid again to buy me some more uniforms, tomorrow for work, I'm going to have to wear color scrubs.
I will wear dark navy with a white shirt and my nurse cap. It's the cap that the patients kept talking about.
Nighty night until tomorrow siblings! I'm going to bed with a smile on my face, and peace in my heart all because my patients doted on me today for a change........it was all in the white colors I wore with my white nurse cap. Amazing indeed!
