Wearing My Whites Tomorrow!

Published

I'm sure many of you remember the thread I started about wearing whites and my nursing cap again? Well, tomorrow is the day I wear whites and cap in celebration of my 16 years of being a nurse. I'm doing it for ME...no one else...just for me because I feel like I could use the reminder of what it was like to don that uniform and hat on a day that made me proud to call myself somebody's nurse.

No, it is NOT in the uniform that I am a nurse. It is in my mind and heart. It is in my approach to my profession. I simply wish to honor my achievement and success as a nurse even if there are "certain someones on my current unit at work" that may beg to differ. They don't pay my bills, they weren't there to receive my nursing pin or degree, they weren't there when I struggled with the subject matter of a nursing class in college, they weren't there for any of what matters to me the most. Therefore.........tomorrow I will celebrate ME...the Nurse...whom I am very proud of because I've walked through shick to get to where I am today, and only God knows how truly stinky that schick really was for me to overcome. :kiss ;)

Will be thinking about you in your uniform and what it means. Congratulations on those many years of nursing!

Way to go Renee:kiss

I'm sooooo happy you had such a good day. It could be that you were inspired to do that wonderful deed in order to reset the original trend in nursing. You definitely are a nurse advocate, not only for the patients, but also for all of us who respect the field of nursing and what it stands for.

Many years ago, before nurses' aides were required to be certified, we were required to wear white dress uniforms with white shoes and stockings, and I loved it.

The way it made the patients feel was definitely uplifting to my spirit, and inspired nursing as a career later on.

Yup, you definitely have some converts here. Congratulations; you're a winner in my book.:nurse:

Hi Noney :)

I don't know whether or not anyone at work knows me on this website or not. If they do, they never say. I know one LPN for sure knows I read this site, but don't know if she knows my post username or not. I really don't mind if they do because I NEVER say anything that they don't hear at work anyway. I'm as REAL as they come, and aint no shame in my way of life at all. :)

Thanks everyone for your wonderful support and encouragement! It's been a great weekend for me at work --- shock, shock!

First, on Saturday, I wore my whites and nurse cap, and the patients (and a few staff) loved it!

Then on Sunday (today), I got floated to a unit that was superb in staffing and organization. The staff was so helpful and friendly! I like to float. I use to work as a float nurse years ago. I like the variety, the challenge. I'm the kind of person that gets bored real easy, so as I've always been told "VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE"! :D
