Can anyone recommend a good voice recorder? Their are so many to choose from.

I have the Sony ICDP620 Digital Voice Recorder, and I think it is just fine. I wanted one that I could plug into my computer and save my lectures and this tape recorder does just that. You can even put your recordings onto your iPod.

I have heard that some people record themselves reading their text and then listening to it in the car on the way to school and any other time. I thought that was a great idea and thought I would share it.

The only problem that I have with recorders is that they pick up on every little noise so if you bump your desk it comes over kind of loud on the recording so I need to find a way to put it in my purse on the floor or something...

I never thought about getting a recorder. Hmm.. I think I will get one for my A&P course. Is it taboo? is it allowed? Thanks

Any digital voice recorder will meet your needs. I'd choose based on price. That said, the Sony ICD series are excellent (though a bit pricey).

Just a word about the micro-cassette recorders. I guess I should have went with a digital because I bought a Micro-cassette recorder, due to it was cheap, and it ALWAYS malfunctions! So I decided to give up on it and I will buy a digital one before NS this fall

I recorded all of a and p 1 but after listening to it for 1 1/2 at school I found my self dreading it at home so a and p 2 i did not record; I got a better grade in 1 than 2 the one i got was a sony that was sold at the book store cheaper than at staples!

Protocol is to ask the instructor if they allow it. One classmate of mine told me she just put her recorder on the desk and never said a word and got away with it. Nowadays you are more likely to encounter instructors or institutions that do not allow recording. In my earlier days, it was standard practice to put everyone's recorder on a desk or table in the front. The instructors said they didn't want people standing up and messing with the recorders, so they recommended using the long play function.

I absolute L-O-V-E my Olympus WS-311M (512 MB). It is a digital voice recorder, AND has a USB outlet that connects directly onto your computer like a thumb-drive. It helped sooooooooo much. I will NOT go to class without it. You stick onto your computer, and class repeats itself! My only complaint is that I wish I would have gone with the WS-321M (1 G) or 331M (2 G) with the memory being the ONLY difference. Memory is not actually a problem. But I love this so much, it would be awesome if I could have more so I can use for lots of things. ANyway, super small, super light, awesome clarity. I love this thing. If you have a long commute, you can burn the files into a disc/ipod and pop in the car on your way to school/work. My commute is literally 5 minutes, so I just bring headphones and use my recorder like an MP3 to walk around, or I'm listening to the lectures during study time at home on the computer. Anyway, I love it. Got it on Amazon for about $65.

I also LOVE my Olympus digital voice recorder. I have the DS-40. I record my class, then d/l to my laptop (mostly as a back-up). I spend a good majority of the day walking around with ear buds and my voice recorder. I can not count the number of nights I fell asleep listening to one of my classes. I agree with a lot of what Water83 wrote. It is a great investment.

Good point, mom.

Cassettes are mid-20th century technology and should be left there.

Digital's the only way to go (and makes it simple to rip mp3's of your recordings for your listening pleasure).

Above is a Amazon link but look at the demo. This thing is amazing. You have to use their paper but you tap your notes in an area you did not quite get and the pen plays the lecture starting at that point.

The people in the DSPS are raving about it. Someone is sending me a longer demo by a student so I can check it out more. Sounds supper cool and you don't have to re-listen to the entire lecture. It comes in 1GB and 2 GB.
