Vent about scrubs

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

So, I was very excited about the Grey's Anatomy scrubs that came out. Flattering and nicely made. Lately though, I've noticed an ugly trend. Every nurse and student nurse I see wearing them is wearing the top as tight as humanly possible! It drives me crazy, it looks so unprofessional! I understand wanting to look like you have a shape, but your breasts should not be on display in a healthcare setting. Just saying....

Is there anyone here who remembers nursing uniform stores? The clothes there came in specific tailored sizes 6-8-10 rather than small-medium-large. Uniforms were built like real clothes with buttons and waistbands.

The trouble with scrubs is that they are unisex in design, have to be pulled on with no use of zips or anything else to fine tune the fit. It is a wonder anyone looks good in them.

Yep. I sure do remember.

Some of those uniform dresses required one to step into them and then you had to try and zipper them up your back.

Some of the skirts even had a slit in the back for movement.

Buckles, buttons, zippers, belts, ties, pleats, ruffles and darts.

My first one was a White Swan that zippered in the back and had a faux apron on the front. It was smooth across the breast and fitting at the waist.

Some of my uniforms weren't as pretty as others, but they were all fitted and that's how they were made to be. We all wore them.

I did have the boxy scrub tops for a awhile but I donated them to Goodwill. I felt like a slob even when I had them nicely ironed (I'm fussy).

A good fitted top looks neat and tidy and as long as one's bosom isn't swelling and threatening to break free from their confines, I have no problems with what anyone wears.

I see enough body parts from pts that I don't need to add coworkers on the list. I'm sorry but your g-string should not be visible when emptying foley bags, your nipple shoud not pop out when doing CPR and I don't want to see your ample breasts when all I needed was help turning a pt. Nurses have a hard enough time being taken as a serious profession.

I worked with a nurse who wore g-string panties.

Every time she bent over and I saw that g-string sticking out, I just wanted to grab some scissors and go *snip!!*

:whistling:

They may just have larger than average breasts. It would make it seem like they did that on purpose to show off. My scrub top is so enormous, that it goes down to the middle of my thigh, is very loose in the middle but it's very tight up top. I don't have a choice since I'm still in nursing school and I have to wear their uniform.

And some people not have that issue. As long as they can bend over and not show any skin, I think it's appropriate IMO.

There is just no in between for me. I'm in a small top - which still looks I'm like drowning in it, and medium pants which I have to keep pulling up from falling down. If I go smaller, its too tight, or too small. I recently changed jobs and at the new facility we wear scrubs - it made me realize, I don't miss wearing scrubs:( I miss my dress pants and a nice top:)

We have a tech that every time she sits down I can see at least 2 inches of crack and about 3 inches of muffin top. What really grosses me out is all of that skin and butt is touching the backs of our chairs. Disgusting!

omg I have some co- workers who do this. Aren't they aware of the breeze???:roflmao:

Haha - muffin top. I would think that would be uncomfortable?

I kimda solved the problem... Im heavy chested and always felt tight in my scrubs top... So since its not againt our hospital policy to wear regular shirts, i bought very light t shifts hat i wear a light camisole underneath and im good to go... Very comfy since its more stretchy than scrubs top... I just miss those 2 front pockets though...

The worst part has to be being between sizes, especially when they're the required unisex ones. I just dealt with that this week. Medium landau top fit great (a smidge shorter than I'd like it, but much better than swimming in a large), however the pants were a nightmare. The medium pants were too narrow on my thighs (thanks childhood sports!!!) and were doing unflattering things in the front. The large pants were a joke. I looked better in my hubbs' ABU pants at the end of my 3rd trip thru the endurance course (caked in mud and sweat, btw) at the Naval Academy than I did in those scrub bottoms. I was lucky enough to find bottoms that fit (and have more than one pocket) in the correct shade of red. Here's to hoping those three pairs of pants survive the next three years...

Did you buy them on your own, or were they "fitted" thru the school? It would seem what you really needed was the next size up, with some tailoring....

I can't wear grey's anatomy scrubs because they just don't fit in the shoulders. I either have to wear unisex tops or men's. I have huge football player shoulders for a woman LOL.

^I feel your pain...I have football player shoulders on a 5 foot 2 3/4 frame lol.

Some of these comments are downright hilarious, you are making my Sunday morning!

As to the thread, I wear a small top and medium bottoms...I have thick thighs...between the chubby baby of 8 lbs-10lbs before I left the hospital to the dancer in me didn't get the memo for my legs to look like my arms (shrugs)...So if I had Small pants, they fit, but sure can see my waist (and MORE), yet if I got Mediums, they were dragging on the floor. My legs are long too, so a petite pant would force me to wear Michael Jackson glitter socks. It just looked potentially BAD.

I found that Cherokee were the way to go for me, as well as Dickies in the past, but I'm in the market for new scrubs. I think I'll go into the store and find out what makes the best fit. I will never go back to ill-fitting scrubs...I don't plan to swim nor bake any muffins! ;)
