For prospective applicants for the 2017 year in the program. Being as I am currently wait listed in the 2016 year due to a very late application, there is a high probability I would have to apply again come November 1st 2016 for the following year acceptance.

November 1st, 2016 is the priority application deadline for the 2017 year. All materials (GRE, official transcripts, application payment, letters of recommendation, statement of intent) must have been submitted by this date.

Letters of acceptance for August 2016 orientation and start were sent out the first week of February 2016. Wait listed recipients received their wait list offer in an around the first week of March 2016 with the caveat that seats may open well into late July.

I am really hoping to make the November 1 deadline! I submitted my GRE scores and transcripts, however does anyone know how we can check to see if they have received our official transcript? Do they need to receive the official transcripts in order for our application to be complete, or are the unofficial transcripts which we upload to our online application considered sufficient?

I completely agree the open house was amazing! I know that I wanted to go before Saturday but it made me want to get started today!

They said that they want you to submit your application when you have all of your portions done (statement of purpose, and personal info), the unofficial transcripts, recommendations, and GRE scores can be sent out or self reported, and then will be reviewed after November 1. But they definitely said to make sure to get it turned in by Nov 1 for the early action deadline. She said not to wait for all the additional pieces to be received.

Sorry if that didn't make any sense, still a little excited from yesterday :D

Did they give any idea of when they would start making decisions of acceptance at the open house? Or any other important info they shared?

yes, the acceptance letters will go out sometime in Feb. She said the end of Feb beginning of march but I believe it will be before then.

She did also say for the statement of purpose to make sure that your goals and reasoning for the particular specialty chosen matches that specialty.

So I recently found out that I got accepted to my state school's ABSN program (UTHSC-Memphis) which starts in January of 2017.

I am very conflicted here because I won't find out about until late February or early March 2017, based on what Dean Peerman said during the Open House.

The ABSN program is as appealing as the Vanderbilt's accelerated program to me because it costs me less than half of what I would pay for Vanderbilt's Pre-specialty portion, graduate in time to be ready to apply for Vanderbilt's direct entry program (for those with BSN/RN). However, I will have to go through the grueling application process all over again. In addition, if i opt to attend the ABSN program, I will be too far from my SO, who's planning on being in Durham, NC for her graduate school. I feel it is at least doable for us to meet half way between Nashville and Durham, compared to between Memphis and Durham.

If I decide not to attend the ABSN program, I am left with nothing but Vanderbilt. If I don't get in to Vanderbilt, I have no alternative (this is my fault). However, I am a bit optimistic that I have a pretty good chance because I was accepted to the program last cycle but decided to defer due to personal reasons. But then, the fear of the consequence of potentially being left with no choice outweighs my optimism.

Anyone in similar situation? Asking for some insights.

Why not accept your seat to the ABSN and withdraw if you get accepted to ?

Hi Everyone!

Open house really was amazing! The faculty and staff seemed enthusiastic to ensure our understanding during the application process. I've read the above comments and agree. Application results to be reported to applicants sometime in February, those submitting before the early action deadline Nov 1 have better odds for admissions, etc..

Somehow during all of this I've overlooked a section on the Vanderbilt application page. I do have a relative who is a graduate of with their PhD in Immunology, and could technically list them on the application portion that asks about relatives who are alumni or active students. Does anyone know what type of impact, if any, that this will have on my application?

Thanks!

I agree. There was heavy emphasis on the Statement of Purpose clearly relating your interests with your chosen specialty.

Is there a length or format requirement for the statement of purpose?

At open house last weekend, they did not specify a length requirement, but did say that 1 to 1 1/2 single spaced pages would be sufficient.

Hi Everyone! I submitted my application today!! Still waiting on one letter of recommendation but that should be in by the end of the week. Does anyone (especially those applying to the pre-specialty entry to PMHNP track) know when we should expect to hear back-or not- about interviews? I know that they do interview for this specialty.

Also does the microbiology prerequisite have to have a lab component? Or could this class potentially be taken online?

Thanks and good luck to all!!!

Nope, no lab component required!
