For prospective applicants for the 2017 year in the Vanderbilt MSN program. Being as I am currently wait listed in the 2016 year due to a very late application, there is a high probability I would have to apply again come November 1st 2016 for the following year acceptance.
November 1st, 2016 is the priority application deadline for the 2017 year. All materials (GRE, official transcripts, application payment, letters of recommendation, statement of intent) must have been submitted by this date.
Letters of acceptance for August 2016 orientation and start were sent out the first week of February 2016. Wait listed recipients received their wait list offer in an around the first week of March 2016 with the caveat that seats may open well into late July.

Hi again! I'm excited to meet some of you at the upcoming open house. My GRE is this weekend, and I am a bit anxious. I have been preparing, but having been historically a mediocre standardized test taker, I'm a bit anxious! My practice test scores are just below the recommendations on the Vandy MSN admissions page, so hopefully I can break through that threshold and have one less thing to worry about! But if not, I'm banking on solid recommendations, undergrad GPA, experience and essays to overshadow the GRE
Does anyone know if we are allowed to resubmit GRE scores after we submit our application, should we wish to retake the GRE?
I'm almost positive that I read somewhere that Vanderbilt wants students to use the SOP to address any weaknesses in their application. I called yesterday to confirm and the person I spoke with somewhat disagreed. She didn't say not to, but it also seemed like she had never heard of that before. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
I've heard that before too, but I think the idea was that if you have a *major* weakness like you've been convicted of a crime, expelled from college, flunked your freshman year, etc then you should use part of the open-ended essay as an opportunity to defend some of that. For most other people, the focus should be on goals, intentions, what draws you to nursing. Slightly low GREs is not something they want to hear about there.
Thanks for the offer wannabemsf! I'd love to hear about the internal scholarships for pre-specialty non-nurses ie. how many full tuition scholarships and their criteria, are there other high amount (75% or 50%) scholarships as well, etc.
I am also applying for the Fall 2017. I'm currently finishing nursing school and plan on pursuing the MSN/MTS dual Masters program with a dual specialty of FNP/CNM. I have everything prepared to apply by the November deadline except for my GRE which hopefully official transcripts will make it only a couple days after the deadline. I emailed the director of admissions a couple days ago and she seemed incredibly helpful with the questions I addressed. I'm very excited and hopeful at the chance of being accepted and look forward to seeing how the season progresses for each of us.
I am currently in the same boat regarding the GRE. The application will be able to be submitted however our package will not be looked at until completed (from Assistant Director of Admissions). Hope this helps.
Well, I had an amazing time today at the open house. I loved hearing everyone speak and it was so great to visualize what it would be like to be a vusn student next year! That is, until I heard the specialty director basically say that if you don't submit a fully completed app by the Nov 1 priority date, your chances are pretty slim. Seats are filled and wait list started even before they look at apps that may have been submitted a week or two after Nov 1st? Sigh....it really discouraged me. I don't take my gre exam until October 28th, everything else will be complete except for that. I'm trying to stay hopfully but that really deflated me. Maybe it's just bc the specialty I'm applying to is so competitive? Anywho, anyone else who attended...what was your take away from today?
