Vanderbilt MSN 2016

Published

I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.

Ok so I applied for the AG-ACNP and still haven't heard!! This is literally killing me. My application page still says my application status is submitted. Is anyone else still waiting to hear back from AG-ACNP???? Also those that have heard did you submit by Nov 1?

it says "admitted" ?

Sorry i meant it says admitted ill chage that in my post

For those pre-specialty (non-RN) applicants who've been admitted, does your acceptance letter mention anything about the pre-specialty year, or does it just state: "Your 2016 Fall application to the MSN degree in the [specialty] of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) has been approved for Full Time study." Just curious, as I'm paranoid and want to make sure they didn't think I applied to the MSN only because I already have a BSN (which I don't). Thanks!

My acceptance letter says:

Congratulations! Your 2016 Fall application to the MSN degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) has been approved for Full Time study.

Congrats to everyone else who has been accepted and good luck to all those who are still waiting!! I was so shocked that I got accepted into the FNP program, it was all I could talk and think about for the full day. I have a bachelors in a a non-nursing major from a public university in California. My last name is L for all those wondering about decisions...

For all those accepted, has anyone looked into the FNP specialty/MSN portion? I'm apprehensive about the modified distance learning where you go on campus for only a week out of a month? Seems kinda excessive that we're paying 50,000+ dollars while doing online coursework :/ and only meeting on campus for 1 week each month... I know they put a very high importance on the experience you gain from your clinical placements for the 2nd year, but what if you get placed somewhere where you don't get to learn to your fullest potential... EEK. ALSO, you can get placed up to 150 miles away from the campus, that seems pretty far to me....

Yes, ASMS, I think we are fine. I am prespecialty also and my letter had the same wording.

For others still waiting, I am pre-specialty/non-rn/non-bsn MSN program for PNP (pediatric nurse practitioner), last name starting with M, I received email at 6:17 eastern time on 2/3.

I was under the impression that, for those with a BA in a non-nursing field, we are NOT eligible to partake in the distance-learning format. I thought we took classes on campus for the full 2 years. Am I wrong in thinking this?

They aren't identifying "pre-specialty" in the letter because we aren't getting a different degree. Everyone gets the same MSN; it's just that those without a BSN have an extra year of study.

And congrats!

For pre specialty (those without an bsn), your first year is full time and on campus. For the 2nd year (FNP, not sure about other specialities) it is some distance learning.

@ASMS please let me know if you know whether this true or not.. I'm kinda stumped by this

I'm in for pre-specialty FNP! Found out at 3:43pm est and my last name begins with T. I hope everyone gets a response soon!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted!! I applied for pre-specialty FNP and as of yesterday at 5:30 MST I was wait listed. A bit bummed since Vanderbilt is my top choice :( and not sure what the chances are of getting in at this point.

If anyone decides to go with another school/program please share on this page so that us wait listers have an idea of any potential space opening up!:)

Good luck to those still waiting and congrats to those already in!

Hang in there! They went out of their way to tell me during my interview that the wait list moves, so don't count yourself out yet.

For those who were accepted, do you plan on attending the March open house or just the one in August that is mandatory for incoming students? I was looking over the itenerary for the March one and it looks like it's more geared towards students who are considering applying.

I agree, it looked like it was for prospective students, not admitted students. I dont plan to go.
