Vanderbilt MSN 2016

Published

I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.

anyone else apply to the ENP program?

I honestly don't know! I like both programs and both Atlanta/Nashville. Emory gave me more scholarship money, but the extra semester still makes Emory the more expensive option. But I like the idea of having a BSN so I can start working after my first year. Are you going to the accepted student weekend at Emory Saturday? Would love to discuss pros/cons and what you're thinking! PM me!

Apparently you can't send PMs on here if you haven't posted enough. Feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected]!

I think I'm the only other one following this feed, still haven't heard either at this point.

@tesla22 I was only trying to say that I am the only other ENP applicant other than rawz2014 that I had seen in this thread so far, not that I'm the only one following the thread of course. I know lots of other MSN applicants are anxiously waiting. Are you an ENP applicant as well? @rawz2014 yep it's the only application I've put out.

Something to think about; Upon completing the pre-specialty year at Vanderbilt once you pass the NCLEX you may also work as an RN (you are considered a certificate RN) in TN. But, remember this is an accelerated program and you will be completing 48+ hours per week in clinicals and at some point 24 hours of on call 2 - 3 days a week, can you really work as a RN, too?? I had a friend complete this program and she reminded me of this. Also, out earlier, you can begin working earlier as an Advanced Practice Nurse at a higher salary.

At least where I'm from and what I've seen from experience, a lot of hospitals now require a BSN to be able to work at the RN level. Maybe that's not as stringent in Tennessee, though. From what my advisors have told me, if you want the flexibility to work between programs (especially in acute care/labor and delivery), more emphasis should be placed on programs that award a BSN. If anyone has seen different, though, feel free to share! Many may find it helpful.

I would not consider no news 'bad news' at this point. I think you said you're ENP. That's one of their smaller programs. Maybe they just haven't gotten to those admissions yet. I have heard people on this thread who have been advised of "rejections" so if you haven't heard anything at all, hang in there!
