URGENT!

Hey guys, for those of you that were offered an "expedited hiring" d/t COVID, did you guys get a TEMPORARY position that will turn into a PERMANENT position after one year? Or did you get a permanent position from the getgo?

Thanks!

Mine was expedited but permanent, I actually did all the steps they needed like Vetpro and everything else.

Have you started yet? Did they offer you a temporary position that will turn into a permanent one after the board has determined your final grade/step or after one year

Hi, I'm starting the end of May and my hiring papers seems a permanent not temporary position. I'm looking what kinds of medical insurance I need to choose, if someone have any idea which medical plan is the best please let me know.

I applied for the COVID NP position, was interviewed on a Monday, next Friday I was called to say I got the position, and to fill out paperwork ASAP, had it all turned in over the weekend, and on Wednesday I was told there was no longer a need for me. Quite disappointing to say the least. I have also applied for a permanent position but have not heard anything about that listing other than I qualify.

I just had an interview and they called my references the next day for a temporary full time position. Is it worth the risk of quitting my permanent job for a temp VA med-surg position? Does it help get your foot in the door to work a temp position and waiting for a perm job to open up?

I think so, it’s really about who you know. Get in there work hard and make contacts. When they open up a position you know who you can contact for help. I seen a nurse today writing a recommendation letter for a nurse that was applying to come on board. I definitely think it’s worth it. if the VA is were you want to be I think you should do it.

I have applied to a position, I was referred a while ago. My question is, if anyone can help. Is it worth to leave my job in the case of an opportunity with the VA. My jobs has no union, not real security but I real like the work environment and everyone there. Thank you

It could go either way! Temporary positions are essentially need-based, if the need is no longer there, they don't need you anymore. They certainly don't have any obligations. They can let you go from one day to the next as a temporary hire. Sure they can convert you to permanent at any point during the process if they wish and if there is funding available, which hiring freezes can occur... As a permanent hire, you are much more secure. If there is low census for weeks or months, that is just what it is! Your job and hours are guaranteed, there is no going home d/t low census... Your job is also based on YOUR performance vs with a temporary position your job is based on external and internal performance... if that makes any sense!

My question to you is, did you apply and interview for a temporary position??? Or did you apply for a permanent position and they are offering you a temporary one??

I worked with a nurse in the government sector before. I was permanent and she was temporary. Management had PROMISED her a permanent position at the end of her one-year temporary hire. She saw an HR person during her lunch one day and asked about the process for her to convert to permanent and HR flat out told her there were no such plans. Management was stalling her and she never got a permanent position.

I was offered a temporary position and turned it down. It is just too risky for me personally. But to each their own! If I had chosen the temporary position, I would have lost $3,000 in PTO. I have been with my current job for less than one year, so they will not pay out my PTO... And with the current COVID crisis I can not take my PTO! Additionally, I would have to pay back about $2,000 of my prorated sign-on bonus. So all together $5,000 loss for a temporary position? AND then they can let me go at any given time?? NOPE!

Now, I am in the process of onboarding for a permanent position.

I'm so sorry that happened to you! Sounds like it was a temporary position and the need for the facility changed. Hopefully, you will hear soon about the permanent position. Have you tried getting in touch with the facility's nurse recruiter yet??

I haven't. I was unsure if that was appropriate or not, since I had received the qualifying email. It is such a stressful time right now with hiring freezes going in in several places, but I was hoping since the temporary position has already done the background and reference checking they would be able to use that information when assessing my application. You are right, though, I will reach out directly on Monday - nothing ventured nothing gained!

I applied for a position as a psych NP in January. I just got the firm offer yesterday. I am being hired as a Nurse III/Step 12 and will start in July (based on my needs). They said it was not special Covid salary, but my actual pay. I'm just in shock that I got the max!

WOW!! That is great, congratulations! Do you mind sharing how much experience you have as an NP?

I had my fingerprints done Monday. How long did that process take for you all? I had my interview mid April.
