  1. I have been a psych NP for about 2 years and currently moved positions to a place where I was seeing 20-30 patients per day to a place where I am seeing 60 per day. I feel very unhappy now since the number of patients are way too many, I get paid per hour and feel utterly abused in this position. Not sure if this many patients are the norm in psych. what are your thoughts and advice.?
  2. I think so, it’s really about who you know. Get in there work hard and make contacts. When they open up a position you know who you can contact for help. I seen a nurse today writing a recommendation letter for a nurse that was applying to come on board. I definitely think it’s worth it. if the VA is were you want to be I think you should do it.
  3. I went to face to face FNP school, and so far I like online better. Clinical is where you learn most of the stuff. I have a psych NP job already and not even done! I wouldn’t worry about which school right now. Psych is in demand. Tests are not bad, they go with what your reading and for boards. I personally like it. I precept for APU FNP students and that school has a LOT of BS work. For NU I turn in a lot of soap notes and papers. Psych is way more interesting to me then family practice.
  4. I am only my last semester at National, I live here in Southern California, one of the biggest reasons I chose this school because it was in my State. I had applied to University of Cincinnati, got in but had to go a few times to Ohio and traveling was hard for me at the time. So I chose National. National was about a 9 month program post FNP. Mostly online, you do have to go to an OSCE once per semester. Overall I liked it. Not much face to face teaching more like your teaching yourself. I have always felt school is what you put in. If your willing to put in the work I think its a good school for psych. PM for more questions.
  5. Hi, If you were referred, it means that you were qualified for the job. Next they send all the qualified applicants to the hiring manager who will look at the candidates and interview them. They don't interview all of them, just the most qualified. After that, then they decide to offer you a job. I have been referred before and not even been called. I would suggest you keep applying until you get that interview call. Best of luck!
  6. Does anyone know what the official PPE is for ED? What's the official PPE for COVID units or r/o Covids in "the tent"? Currently, what we are doing is a surgical mask in ED. We aren't getting any positive covid or rule outs, that is all taken care of outside in the tent. The people in "the tent" get full on gear for the rule outs, testing, and positives.
  7. Yes I am still in ED, they have enough PPE for all, they have a COVID tent out side for all the respiratory illness. The NP's don't go out there really. but we have face shields, surgical masks, and N95 available so far I haven't had an issue. Providers in the covid tent have PAPRs.
  8. For orientation, due to Covid I was not able to have a face to face NEO, it was all online, It was only 30 minutes and then I got sent to my department.
  9. So wondering how the ER at the VA is handling everything? Are the stories the same like the other ERs with the hoarding of PPE and not having enough supplies and crazy number of Covid cases? I would hope that the VA is better than that? Any updates?
  10. So you want to show examples at the highest nursing possible. For example as a director of nursing: examples of collaboration that influenced the group you were leading, they wanted copies of any policies you may have made. You don’t want to show examples that affected a certain individual patient or nurse, but examples that showed how you were able to influence a floor, a hospital, anything in the larger scheme of things.
  11. LOL! I interviewed in September, barely got the official letter last week, starting in April.
  12. How often are the raises? I got offered Nurse 2 Step 5 in Southern California
  13. Here is some updated salary information for you all, here in Southern California I got offered 124,000/year as a NP with 4 years experience. That is about 59 dollars an hour which is what I was making as a new grad. Currently in the private sector I make 85/hr 1099. I decided to take the ay cut for stability and health benefits. I will start soon but I am excited. I hope it works out.
