VA hiring process 2020
I interviewed in April, tentative offer in early May. I got my firm offer on July 1st and I start on Monday. It was long, disorganized and I felt like I was losing my mind. They had called my references two different times and didn't know they had already called and several other crazy things. But I am finally starting on Monday. I can't even believe it.

VA hiring process 2020
I am in Lexington, KY and the Nashville HR is helping with some of the appointments and it has been crazy. HR called my references 2 months ago and someone else called them again and asked the same questions like they hadn't talked to anyone before. I went to have my drug screen because the HR person in Nashville sent me and they didn't have the info they needed to do it so I had to come back. It has been so confusing. LOL I have done equip, physical, drug screen and still do not have a formal offer. Interview was in April. I had to tell my manager since they wanted a current supervisor reference, so I wish I could just get a start date and formal offer. My friend got an offer and has been a bedside nurse for 10 years and she said it was not enough money and turned it down.

First year nurse. Thinking about leaving field altogether.
Do not work a job without a scanning system, I don't and won"t. If I had to pass meds to 50 people, I wouldn't do it. Demand calling in another nurse be called in. When you need help, ask for it. Know your limitations. It sounds like you need to work something lower stress which is not easy to find in nursing. A clinic setting may be a better fit for you.

I had my fingerprints done Monday. How long did that process take for you all? I had my interview mid April.

A day in dialysis
I appreciate your honesty. I have call days now but not that intense. I will definitely ask those questions! Thank you!

A day in dialysis
Can any of you please tell me what it is like being a dialysis nurse? I have only done clinic and floor nursing and haven't been able to find anything I feel is a good fit for me. I have an interest in dialysis because it literally saved my daughter's life many years ago before I became a nurse. I have an interview next week for acute dialysis. Any information and reasons you love it or hate it would be much appreciated.

Taking patients
I became a nurse at 40. I have worked in healthcare 27 years. I have 5 daughters, 2 grown. I may not be old at 45 but I feel old. I talked to the nurse manager said I am working myself doing everything and need to delegate more but we are often short staffed. I am working myself to death, I guess. I don't know. I take care of my patients as I would my own family and I am aware of what I signed up for as a nurse and as far as taking patients, I just meant maybe if I didn't have 7 patients for 12 hours it would not be as physically demanding. I did not mean that so literally. Floor nursing is hard, I was venting after a very hard week.

Taking patients
Are any of you just tired of TAKING patients? I am thinking I just want to give them away. Like preop, pacu, maybe ICU? I have in the last 5 years always had 4-7 patients and I am getting old and so tired. Have any of you went from med-surg and found something that doesn't feel like chaos that is breaking you down? I have worked clinics (less pay) and it's not my thing, I like patient care and being a nurse but am just wanting a change of pace. Would love OB but I can't seem to ever even get a call back.

I hate being a nurse
I have been a nurse for 3 years and have had 4 jobs. The one I have now is tolerable, but pays nothing. I don't feel anything fits. I am not sure why, many people say I am good at it, but it's a very stressful job. It feels like it takes over your life and sucks all the energy in the process. I wish I had advice but it has been very a very disappointing career choice for me.

Burned Out & Bummed Out - Can't find my nursing "niche"
I have only been a nurse for 2 1/2 years but I realized after a year or so that I HATE floor nursing. It is like a prison sentence and all I looked forward to were my days off. I do home care now and it is a much better fit. It is still nursing and it still sucks some days but I get to see lots of people getting better. I also like that I don't work weekends or holidays except if I have to take call and I am still home for the most part.

BCTC Nursing Fall 2011
Hi everyone, I have heard some bad things about BCTC, it is nice to have come here and read about some positive experiences. I am planning to apply to nursing school for the fall 2012 at BCTC in Lawrenceburg, so I am slowly working my way into it. I wanted my youngest child to be 3 before I take the plunge and get so tied down. Just working through psychology and the prereqs have been hard with a job and kids, as I am sure lots of you know!
