UW Transfer BSN 2019

Published

Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!

@acraig2 thank you for your reply. Do you mind if I ask, was it just a simple percentage question like convert from decimal to percentage or was it more of a word problem?

I’ve also apply to SPU. I have an interview for 3/2. I’ve been trying to find info on the interview/essay portion with no luck. Anyone have any info on this? Sorry for so many questions.

Congrats to everyone who's gotten an invite to the proctored essay or made it to the next round for SU and/or SPU! I have my SU interview on 2/19 and SPU on 3/2, so I'm feeling pretty jittery about this week. ? Bella2021, I haven't found any resources for SPU, unfortunately. Let me know if you find something!

To everyone else, thanks so much for the resources you've been providing! I'm so excited to potentially (hopefully!) start nursing school with some supportive peers. A nurse friend who went to UW recommended having some examples of situations you might want to touch on while writing the essay, in case any of you want to prep for that. Good luck everyone! Looking forward to seeing you guys on Wednesday!

bluepurplegreen - Can I ask what you mean by situation you might want to touch on?

I think she means patient care stories and experiences you've had working or volunteering. I def second this, my only issue is that I used several such stories in my personal statement and resume, so now I'm going to rack my brain for more. It's probably not bad to reuse the same examples but I imagine the committee would be interested in seeing different ones.

Hello everyone, I am new here and also got invited to the proctored essay!

I was wondering for the math questions, should we be rounding to the nearest whole number or leave the answer in decimals. For example, for IV Drip Rates, if I get 22.2, is it okay to round it to 22 gtt/min? Also, if the question does not state to solve for minutes or hours (simply asking for a rate), is gtt always over min or hour because I saw one video do it over hour and others doing it over minute.

Also, are there any resources out there to help us prep for the essay portion? Like previous scenarios or others? I don't know how to prepare for the essay.

Thanks!! ? Good luck all ~

@purplepotato

While I've yet to experience writing the proctored essay, I would assume that they'll always specify the units in the problem! Additionally, I'm also assuming they'll state if they want us to round or not. Something I've found helpful is looking through the past forums and getting a feel for the essay prompts! Hopefully this helps

One question though for anybody who's written the proctored essay, are the math questions usually only just dosage calculations?

Thank you guys for being so helpful ?

Hi, I got invited to the proctored essay writing this 20th of feb for the fall 2019 application. Does anyone have any ideas what they’ll be asking in that essay??

Beserk got what I meant correct, sorry for the confusion ?

Purplepotato, the best rule of thumb I've heard is if they don't give you a number of decimal places to round to specifically, do 2 places (so 22.27 or whatever). And I believe it should be specified what they want you to do for flow rate (either gtts/min or mL/hr). Just my best guess!

@Bella2021 The percent problem from last year was a word problem. It was something along the lines of a blood pressure is this number and after getting a medication it was this new number. the word problem stated that if it was over 25% it had to be monitored or something like that but the actual problem specifically asked for the percentage of the drop in blood pressure. I hope this makes sense. it was a year ago now so I don't remember exacts anymore.

So many questions running through my brain!

Does anyone know if we get scratch paper? I’d like it available for the conversion questions and maybe it’d be a good idea to map out my essay briefly on scratch paper before writing a “final” draft.

@m.higgins5 yes you get scratch paper! I remember getting a few sheets last year and it helped to do some of the math on there but you also will have to show your work for solving the math problems on the main paper as well.
