Hey Guys!
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!
Punky, do you spend majority of your time on the island? I'm just wondering if it would be more beneficial to live closer to school because you are there more than anywhere else. I'd like to avoid driving far if possible.
If I had to drive far once a week, I'd still rather live close to the school... but if I'm always driving far, I'd want to live a little bit outside of Galveston.

It depends on the week. If I have clinicals, I'm in the med center 2 days and on the island 2 days. Opposite weeks, I'm there 4 days. If I have a skills lab check-off, I'm there 3 days, and about 20 minutes on a 4th.
I don't mind the drive down 45, it's easy and no traffic. The lectures are all recorded, so I often listen to it again on my way home - repetition.
However, I have a family, so moving wasn't an option. I just have to suck it up and drive on. Sometimes I am jealous of my classmates that can stay at the student center studying until midnight then have a 3 minute walk to their apartment (with a security escort!!)
At orientation, they asked how many were on or off the island and I think our class was split pretty much in 1/2. I live in Friendswood, but I know of people that drive much further!
don't get bummed about grades as i think i hold the lowest overall gpa... i was at a 2.98 when i applied and managed to get it up to a 3.05 once i completed my pre-reqs....i have about 12 'w's on my record from a few years back also....i did make a 90.7 on my teas and all a's and 1 b on all recent classes, but my overall school history was less than sparkling.
i am in the dickinson/league city area and would love to get together to meet all of you. maybe dinner and drinks?
please join in on my group page i started at :

don't lose hope if you haven't heard anything yet, either interview or acceptance wise and congrats to all those in so far!
i sent a facebook request my name is anna jones please accept me! thanks!
my friend got her rejection letter today anyone else???
Also I see alot of you are searching for apartments near 45...dont rule out Hwy 146 as an option. I take 146 south and run it till it meets with 45 and it is a smooth ride with no fuss or traffic. Its just another option. There are ALOT of nice apartments on Hwy 96 in League City. Pretty sure they are more than signature point though... Signature point is pretty nice, BUT that highschool creates a headache and frankly I cant stand FM 518 as its normally a cluster of traffic!
Also, for those of you who will have room mates there are some pretty nice townhomes and manufactured homes for rent around me in a place caled Green Caye. These are big and pretty nice with decent rent. http://www.greencayevillage.com/
You can have BIG dogs as each unit has a yard that is maintained by the grounds people. In my opinion they are nicer than normal apartments and all units are on the first floor with parking directly outside your door. Smallest unit they have though is a 2 bedroom.
If anyone looks into these, I live about 5 seconds away so carpooling with me is always an option :) Oh and my drive is right at 27 miles or 25-30 minutes, from my driveway to the parking lot at the SON
I want to try and get a meet up together. I kind of wanted to wait until we got a little bit closer till we start class.... I am sure people work right now while we arent in school and I currently have class so I am thinking maybe dinner and drinks one night?
I will post up if anything is arranged on facebook :)

Same here. I can't go above $600 and I don't have a washer, dryer, OR microwave so it'll be nice to have those included. Anything I can do to save money!
