Hey Guys!
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!
I live on the border of league city/Dickinson and it's a good area. My husband actually works in Galveston and it's a 20 min drive from out house. A friend of mine graduated fromUtmb in April and she did her clinicals at utmb, tx woman's, and clear lake regional. So league city area would be a much better middle point in my opinion. I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable putting my child in day care in Galveston. There are a lot of great day cares in league city and all in safe and clean parts of town.
Thanks, that helps a lot. I'll look out for apartments over there.
My friend and I were talking about accepting our invites to UTMB and we wondered... What happens if you accept an invitation to a college and don't end up going? Like you decide you don't want to go anymore, etc. What brought it up was this: I vaguely remember someone from another UTMB thread I had read from previous semesters saying they had accepted their UTMB invite, but ended up going to another school... How does the school handle these situations? Anyone know??
Btw, I had 3 friends apply plus myself for Spring 2012, and so far 3/4 are accepted! :) We are very excited.
They put between 25-50 people on a waiting list, after they've been interviewed. They called people in all the way thru orientation. I have several friends who got a phone call on the last day of orientation. People drop for various reasons.
Congrats and I would like to know what are some good but not expensive apartments in league city?
I just looked at some in League City called Signature Point. They quoted me $550 for a 1 bedroom for a 15 month lease (I'm liking that because I want one lease for the whole BSN program and I'm sure they'd extend it a month or two). Washer/Dryer/Microwave are included. They seemed nice and are gated. I'll still going to look around but I've lived in the area for about 3-4 years and that price is pretty good for everything they include. They're about 5-8 minutes off 45.
Here's a link to their website: http://www.signaturepointapts.com/
I also have a few friends that live in The Huntcliff and they like it there. I, personally, lived in the Bradford Apartments for 2 1/2 years with a roommate. They are also gated, and I enjoyed living there. However, they're around El Dorado & Hwy 3, a little further away from Galveston than League City.
I would also be sure to check apartmentratings.com on whichever ones you look at. And if you find any more, feel free to share! I'd like to take a look at some that are closer to 45 :)
Hope this helped!
Signature point is nice. Only downfall is it's right by clear creek high school and there is MAJOR traffic in the mornings and afternoon. Im not sure of prices but the nicer apartments that I know of are Windsor estates (Texas city by the mall. I lived there years ago and it's really nice). There are also tons of apartments on Hwy 96 right off 45.

Yeah, a friend of mine told me about the high school traffic, too. For the price, I might be able to make that sacrifice. My brother lived in Windsor Estates and he like those a lot! They're out of my price range, but those who can afford them should look into them. Plus, they're closer to the island. I'll have to look at the ones around 96.
Thanks for your help! :)
