UTMB Fall 2012
Hemphia, don't stress too bad (easier said than done - trust me, I know!) :) I just about drove myself mad trying to figure out the method to UTMB's madness when I applied last semester. And even after being accepted, I still have no idea how they decide the order of interviews. As far as classes and on campus times, I can't speak for everyone else but this is my schedule: Monday - Class Tuesday - lab (every other week) Wednesday - lab (every other week) Thursday - Class Friday - Free day :) Saturday - Clinical 7a-5p Lecture is with all 100+ people in your class. I have clinical every single saturday while others have it every other week either Tues/Wed from 7a-3p or Wed/Fri 7a-3p. So the weeks that I don't have lab, I have Tues/Wed off. But if I were to have clinical during the week, I would have the weekends off. It's kind of confusing but you get used to it. You'll get your lecture schedule first (probably at orientation) and then they'll build on it from there. Congrats to all those who have gotten interviews! :) And those who haven't, don't give up hope! It's only the beginning :):)

UTMB Fall 2012
I couldn't agree more with punkydoodles!! Things change in the blink of an eye - and as punkydoodles told our class 'the key to surviving this school is flexibility' And she wasn't joking. You kind of have to have the 'I'll believe it when I see it' outlook. Stay positive but don't believe anything until it is set in stone. (and even after that, it could still change) lol Graduating early is the main reason why I chose to apply for the Spring semester, so I understand the benefits of it. :) They are also going to be accepting BACC2 students in the Summer semester, now...if I'm not mistaken that's new, too. Good luck to you all! And don't get discouraged if some get interviews and you don't! There will be more rounds to come. :) Just stay positive!

UTMB Fall 2012
It took 5 months before I was invited for an interview - so don't be alarmed if it takes a while. Good luck to everyone :)

Also - I have a blog about my time at utmb...it's been a work in progress since I've never blogged before (not to mention the lack of free time!) but feel free to check it out! Rocker Ryder also has a good blog! :)

Sorry I didn't respond sooner! I haven't been on here in a while. To answer your question - yes, there were people who were accepted without an interview but it's very rare. They had to have a straight 4.0 with no withdrawals on their transcripts...and a few other requirements as well. I don't know of any in my class, but when I went for open house, there was a current student who got accepted under those terms. Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask! :) I'll make it a point to check this more often!

UTMB Fall 2012
polysaturate - it's been a while since I applied, but I don't remember having to have my transcripts accredited by another company. I know most schools will use SPEEDE to send the transcripts to UTMB electronically, which is what UTMB prefers, but that's all I know. In my opinion, I wouldn't use NursingCAS, because of the delay. All your transcripts must be sent to them, and once your application and payment are complete through NursingCAS, only then do they send it to UTMB. And all this still must be done before UTMB's deadline. I got this from the NursingCAS FAQ website: Now, I could be reading it wrong, but that seems to be a pretty big delay. Q: When should I start the application process? A: APPLY EARLY! Submitting your materials early will ensure timely processing and help avoid delays. Once your application has a complete date, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for your designated programs to view your verified application in "real time" in their admissions portal. Your application is considered complete when NursingCAS has received the following: Electronic Application All Official Transcripts Payment site: https://portal.nursingcas.org/applicants2012/faq/faq_general.html

UTMB Spring 2012
If I remember correctly there wasn't a specific topic. It was just a 'supporting statement' of why you want to be a nurse, etc.

I had a 3.1 GPA & scored 89% on my TEAS but i'm with rocket ryder....I had a good essay. The link for the Fall 2012 UTMB applicant forum is: https://allnurses.com/tx-nursing-programs/utmb-fall-2012-a-610589-page3.html

I agree with ledestiny & punkydoodles...take your time with your statement! My GPA wasn't considered 'competitive' (3.1 overall & my science GPA was significantly low ) and my Teas score was 89% but I had a pretty good supporting statement and in my opinion, that's what helped me the most. However, I wrote 4 drafts and had a good friend of mine who just graduated from UTMB proofread each one. Also, I didn't have any prior experience with nursing and my interviewer actually pointed that out and said he would have liked me to have some experience. So, those who don't have any experience, you could maybe look into volunteering at a local hospital or something of that sort and you could mention that in your statement, too. They want to know what you're getting yourself into and what being a nurse consists of and that you didn't just put a bunch of potential careers in a hat and randomly pick nursing. Good luck :)

UTMB Fall 2012
Hey everyone :) I was accepted for the Spring 2012 program but will be keeping tabs on this forum to help out in any way. Our class had the same help from a current student (Punkydoodles) and she was a life saver! For those ONLY applying to UTMB, I would definitely look into the other schools as plan B's. There was a time when I was almost certain I didn't get into UTMB and was kicking myself in the butt for not applying to other places. You want to have some options! :)

Same here. I can't go above $600 and I don't have a washer, dryer, OR microwave so it'll be nice to have those included. Anything I can do to save money!

UTMB Spring 2012
Yeah, a friend of mine told me about the high school traffic, too. For the price, I might be able to make that sacrifice. My brother lived in Windsor Estates and he like those a lot! They're out of my price range, but those who can afford them should look into them. Plus, they're closer to the island. I'll have to look at the ones around 96. Thanks for your help! :)

UTMB Spring 2012
I just looked at some in League City called Signature Point. They quoted me $550 for a 1 bedroom for a 15 month lease (I'm liking that because I want one lease for the whole BSN program and I'm sure they'd extend it a month or two). Washer/Dryer/Microwave are included. They seemed nice and are gated. I'll still going to look around but I've lived in the area for about 3-4 years and that price is pretty good for everything they include. They're about 5-8 minutes off 45. Here's a link to their website: http://www.signaturepointapts.com/ I also have a few friends that live in The Huntcliff and they like it there. I, personally, lived in the Bradford Apartments for 2 1/2 years with a roommate. They are also gated, and I enjoyed living there. However, they're around El Dorado & Hwy 3, a little further away from Galveston than League City. I would also be sure to check apartmentratings.com on whichever ones you look at. And if you find any more, feel free to share! I'd like to take a look at some that are closer to 45 :) Hope this helped!
