HBU FNP 2017
@maima2kris I am sorry you're having a hard time. I can't say much because our cohort, like the previous user mentioned, had 8 week courses. I know they changed it into 16 week courses because some students suggested it would be better. I know they are pretty good about listening to our input so I would definitely mention it on one of the surveys or email directly. I also agree patho is probably the hardest class out of the whole program. I am currently taking the last course.

HBU FNP 2017
Sorry haven't been keeping up much with the posts. 1. I am almost done with the program will be graduating this summer and I do feel prepared. It is a mostly online program so how prepared you are depends on how much work you put in. 2. It is actually organized for it being a new program. I am part of the first cohort and i think it is. Also I would recommend. The program will only get better from here. 3. This is Houston Baptist University, cost is around 18k, not sure about experience. 4. I am sure it doesn't have to be in Texas or Houston since it is online. I haven't had that issue because i live in Texas.

I don't know much about TTUHSC but this program overall is good. We've had some issues here and there but I am part if the first group (the program is new) so that was to be expected. I'm sure it will only get better for the next groups. It is almost 100% online but we do have some upcoming face to face days. The major thing I don't like is that we weren't assisted with preceptors but they are working in getting affiliations.

HBU FNP 2017
I am in the program now and they are accredited by SASCOC and TBON. I buy all my books from amazon and ebay so per semester I've spent maybe 200$? maybe less, depends on the semester.

HBU FNP 2017
I ordered and rented them through Amazon. If anyone is interested in Amazon Prime memebrship they offer a discounted price for students. Also, for theory you will need two books for sure (Chinn & Kramer and Smith & parker books) however the APA book you can do without if you are familiar with writing papers in APA syle. It is useful to have either way.

Bncrowd1- I actually didn't have to do the interview after all. They said based on my information I was accepted but there are people who were interviewed. So far the program is good but this is the first semester. The only thing we've had an issue with is clinical sites because at first we were told they were going to place us but then they said we have to find our own. The workload is great because the classes are 8 weeks and its one class at a time which awesome because of work. The staff is very nice and helpful

HBU FNP 2017
They emailed me back and said I would hear back for an interview this upcoming week and interviews will be held the week after that. I was planning to apply to TWU (I went there for BSN) and I applied at UTMB but they offered me AGNP instead so I turned it down. I think this school would allow you to work and do the program since its online. The only thing that worries me is that they are not yet accredited- did you notice that? They told me they would be before starting but the website hasn't been updated yet.

TWU Houston FNP Fall 2017
i'm planning to apply for Spring 2017 and I'm not sure if to take the GRE or MAT. Any insight as to which one to take?

HBU FNP 2017
Hey everyone, I thought I'd start a thread for this since HBU has a new FNP program so there's not much information out there about it. I am applying for the Aug. 2017 start date and have submitted the req. docs. Anyone else thinking of applying or have any information?

UTMB FNP 2017
@proudtobeanurse yeah I think you're right. I've thought about it a lot and I'm leaning towards declining the offer. thanks for your input! @kcna17- did they give you a deadline for when to reply by?
-
UTMB FNP 2017
I didn't know that, thanks!

UTMB FNP 2017
kcna17- what area are you in? I also dont care for peds, but I'm scared to be stuck in one area for the rest of my career. There are a few FNP's that work in my hospital and I'm not sure if i would be able to do that with AGNP especially since its not acute care AGNP. I feel like AGNP is limited to working in nursing homes and doctor's office which idk if i am ready for that coming from acute care. Its a tough choice for me. -Proudtobeanurse: Congrats! have you always wanted to do agnp? where do you plan to work after you graduate?

UTMB FNP 2017
Not yet. I am not sure I will because i really wanted to do FNP. I think with adult/gero NP there are limitations career-wise. What do you think or have you accepted?

UTMB FNP 2017
So I originally applied for FNP but they've offered me a spot in the adult care/gerontology primary care np program. Did any one else get this? Any input on fnp vs acgnp?

UTMB FNP 2017
I was worried about my application too so I called and spoke to Ned and he said not to worry if I still hadn't received anything because they are still reviewing many applications and last year they were sending out acceptances as late as June. I hope we don't have to wait that long!
