  1. I worked in the OR as a CNA and saw craniotomy surgeries, hand, eye, pelvic, etc. It was a pretty awesome experience but I definitely do not want to be an OR Nurse!

I bet we will be seeing you in the spring!
  3. Does it give a reason why? Or was it just a general rejection?
  4. Mag28 replied to EmilyR's topic in Texas Nursing
Well I'm sorry! Keep pursuing your dream and don't give up on utmb. Keep us updated when you find something out.

Well you sound like a very qualified applicant to me! Have you tried conacting DT? Why don't you just go up to the school? Sometimes you have to fight for what you want!

I would call the assistant dean and see if you can set up a meeting asap to find out why you were not accepted. What were your stats? She can suggest what to do differently or maybe even fix the problem!
  7. I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a 3.7 pre-req, 4.0 science, and a prior bachelor's degree. I thought my chances were pretty good also but I haven't heard anything either. However, I did get in to UTMB, which was my 1st choice school, and I'm 90% sure that's where I will be going. Did you apply anywhere else?

I applied to twu as well. I pulled my app once I heard from utmb because They were my first choice. I personally wanted to graduate earlier like utmb whereas twu doesn't grad till dec 2013. That's 8 months later than utmb! I don't want to be without an income for that long! Do you live in Houston? I'm in between and prefer Galveston since traffic will be practically nothing especially compared to going north bound to Houston. You just have to do what's best for you! Good luck!

I had to create a facebook too!
  10. No. Utmb looks at the whole picture of the person. I have been accepted into utmb's program and it's been my first choice school out of UT-h, utmb, and twu. Jut because you have a high gpa does not mean you will make a Good nurse. You may excel in the classroom but you may not excel in nursing. I think a lot of people get into nursing school with no idea of the good, bad, and ugly that a nurse does on the job. I really like utmb because they look beyond grades and it gives people an opportunity to become a nurse even if they've had a hard time with classes, hardships making them drop courses, etc. I've worked extra hard on my grades and have a prior degree. Utmb said Over 800 people applied for the BSN program. They will choose 120 in the end so in my opinion it is a very competiive school. Even with my scores, my background, etc I was worried about getting in! Also, I have several friends who recently graduated from various nursing schools. The one who graduated top of her class with a 4.0 and was super involved the entire time through the program still is looking for a job. She only got an interview once the professor called in a favor to someone they knew at the hospital. The professor had to tell the interviewer that yes she's a 4.0, top of the class, but she will make an excellent nurse. The professor told her the reason she's having a hard time finding a job was that the belief is 4.0's don't usually make Good nurses. The belief is that it comes easy and you lack the clinical skills one needs to be a nurse like compassion, communication, etc. So basically she worked her butt off for 2 years studying hard to earn her grades and she's fighting to explain she will be a good nurse despite her 4.0. And yes, she will make one heck of a nurse. She's an incredible person! Utmb is a high ranked school also and their nclex passing rates are very high. Ive heard nothing but amazing things about the school and the BSN programs!

    Yay! Me 2!
  12. A girl with just graduated from UT-H and she said "they try to fail you." one of my close friends just graduated from utmb and she said she was able to build relationships with the professors easily and felt like they truly wanted her to succeed.

Signature point is nice. Only downfall is it's right by clear creek high school and there is MAJOR traffic in the mornings and afternoon. Im not sure of prices but the nicer apartments that I know of are Windsor estates (Texas city by the mall. I lived there years ago and it's really nice). There are also tons of apartments on Hwy 96 right off 45.

I live on the border of league city/Dickinson and it's a good area. My husband actually works in Galveston and it's a 20 min drive from out house. A friend of mine graduated from Utmb in April and she did her clinicals at utmb, tx woman's, and clear lake regional. So league city area would be a much better middle point in my opinion. I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable putting my child in day care in Galveston. There are a lot of great day cares in league city and all in safe and clean parts of town.
