UTMB Fall 2012
I'm not sure if this was directed at me or not. I only applied once and interviewed once and got in.

UTMB Fall 2012
I sure did... well.. I didnt finish the semester though. Once I got my acceptance to UTMB (in October last fall) I only went like 3 more weeks or so before I dropped. It was starting to get hairy with the holidays and my little craft business so I called it quits to make some last minute $$$ before UTMB could take it all. If you have ?'s feel free to msg me! I would DEFINITELY recommend a back up plan just in case... I wanted to start something....ANYTHING at that point. I couldnt handle a 'free' semester though. Would have driven me nuts. I missed the fall 2011 deadline for UTMB so I was left waiting for the Spring 2012 admission... As for all of you accepted...CONGRATS! The easy part is over Believe it or not but that WAS the easy part....Congrats and good luck to those with interviews as well!!! For those still waiting, don't lose hope. It's NOT set in stone that there are only 3 rounds of interviews, so don't give up. Oh and they call people on the waitlist up into the first week of class to fill spots too, so even if on the waitlist...dont give up!!! There is no method to their madness.... As for those feeling the need to reschedule.... I had a BIG test the day of my original interview and my prof said if I were to not show up for it, I would have to 'remake' in essay form.....I got a whopping 2 days notice for my interview date! I explained my situation and they seemed like it was no problem at all... I just got lumped into the next group of interviews a week or so later. KILLED me to have to do that and was really hoping I didn't shoot myself in the foot for doing it....Guess I'm living proof that I didn't :)

UTMB Fall 2012
Hey there Fall 2012ers!!! I am currently in the program that just started a few weeks ago. My class will be entering its 3rd semester as SENIORS when you guys start :) I wanted to let you know I will be popping in to help answer some of your questions you may have. From what I have read so far.... I used the ATI TEAS V study guide actually directly made by ATI.... if anyone needs the link, or other info on it, just msg me. Just to clarify I had a 2.98 GPA overall, a 90.7% on my TEAS V and had about 13 W's on my transcript from when I was straight out of highschool. I did however have mostly A's and some B's in my RECENT pre-reqs... I messed up pretty bad right out of highschool, but explained it all in my statement! I think I had the lowest gpa going in.... Paitence is the KEY to this application/acceptance process!!!! I know it is hard...I was JUST there less than 6 months ago! But seriously...don't try to figure out how they do interview invites or how they decide who gets invited first, second, so on! It will drive you MAD and I can guarantee no one will figure it out. They really have no rhyme or reason. As for trying to find out when they invites will go out, its a random waiting game as well. They will tell you all sorts of things if you call and or email. My favorite was, "Should be within the next 2 weeks.". Two weeks go by, and nothing...I call back, "Should be within the next 2 weeks." UGH. Seriously it will drive you MAD. So just try to stay patient, make sure they have received ALL the things you submitted (yes there was someone who had things fall through the cracks and didn't get an interview because of it)...then a couple weeks after you submit, you DEFINITELY want to call the School of Nursing to make sure that they received all your stuff from Enrollment Services. Personally I would not live in Galveston...esp if I had children. The school systems are not great, in my opinion. There are a few people that I know that have moved down there and are "OK" with it. But its all up to what the individual can handle. I commute from the League City area and its not bad at all. There will most likely be someone that lives near you to carpool with...if you like. As for the schedule... THIS COULD CHANGE FOR YOU, JUST TRYING TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT TO EXPECT!!!! Classes for first semester are : Intro to Nursing, Pathophysiology, Adult 1, and Health Assessment. Ours is Monday 9am-3pm, and Thursday 9am-4pm JUST for lectures... then labs are every other week, Tuesday & Wednesday from around 9-4 for one and 8-1 for the other. Depends on your clinical group as to which day is the longer lab day.... then Clinicals are either the opposite Tuesday/Wednesday from 7am-3p or Wed/Friday from 7am-3pm OR every Saturday from 7am - 5pm. You DO get to request your top 3 choices as far as location and time of the clincal... nut no guarantees can be made. Some people got stuck with Saturday clincals and it wasn't any of their top 3 choices... its done on an online survey link that will open at a set time and its first come first serve. In the first 30 seconds we had 96 people already had in their requests....Almost all of them require you to arrive early at 6am or so, also, most require 'patient pick up' which requires to go to the hospital the night before to pick out which patient you will be caring for in order to do your research on that said patient for the following day. On top of all that they offer free tutoring sessions that are scheduled by them. We have Health assessment tutoring on Monday from 3:30-4:30 and Patho from 5:30-7pm, then Tuesday is Adult 1 tutoring from 6:30-7:30, then Patho again on Thursday from 4:15-5:45pm... SO its A LOT of on campus time. That doesnt even touch the 'required' readings for each class/module OR studying in general... I feel like I could go on and on. As questions come up, i will try to answer them. if there is something specific, please feel free to private msg me!

UTMB Spring 2012
I was 2.98 gpa and a 90.7 % TEAS overall... Keep in mind that UTMB does not go on scores and grades alone! I had a TON of W's on my transcript from way back when, a C in Chemistry, and B's in most other classes from back in the day...all my new classes were A"s such as nutrition, A&P 1 &2, Micro, and Statistics though... I also had a really good essay. I had 10 people proof it before i sent it! 3 of which were UTMB alumni :) No nursing history/experience except for working in a veternarian's office for 3 years and doing vet tech stuff. Make sure to get on the fall 2012 board if you arent already on it.... a lot of usa springers are helping out over there.

UTMB BSN Summer 2013
I do believe this is a first for UTMB to run a summer start program. It is a ways off as there is a Fall of 2012 and a Spring of 2013 that will start before this summer of 2013... I am sure someone in the nursing admissions office could help you a bit more on the details, if they even know them all yet. I just got accepted, and will be starting in January so I can't comment much on the program as of now, but I do know that all I hear are great things and I look forward to getting my degree there :)

UTMB Spring 2012
For those of you still waiting... I have set up a meet and greet place and time on the facebook group so make sure you join the facebook group if you get in :) Its not until December 9th... So it should allow plenty of time for more invites to go out!

UTMB Spring 2012
I didnt take patho. I have only taken AP 1 and 2, Chemistry, Botony and Microbiology. I specifically asked her about the botony class and she said that it would satisfy it.
-
UTMB Spring 2012
D.T told me my Botony will satisfy my elective science. I wasnt sure so I made her double check... I don't know if they still laoow it or not, but I would NOT recommend that class to anyone unless you want to memorize green slide after green slide... Hope all of you who are waiting to hear something get some news soon!!!
-
UTMB Spring 2012
Botony was the epitome of boredom!!! Take Patho as I am SURE it will help along the way. I had taken it a few years back so it already satisfied the credit I need for the elective science...
-
UTMB Spring 2012
Patho/Pharm was not part of my pre reqs... but I think either can be used as the elective science credit... mine was Botony. I have attached a link for you to find all listed pre-reqs to be completed by enrollment time... I know 40 of the 60 MUST be completed by application deadline I believe and all 60 MUST be completed before you can enroll and they DO ask for PROOF of completion before you can start... http://son.utmb.edu/programsofstudy/bsn/bsnprerequisites.cfm Not ALL of us habe moved onto FB... I am here as well :) I still check in to keep those of you not on facebook updated incase I gather a meet and greet fro us.. I am thinking maybe the week/weekend before christmas. Maybe we could even do a white elephant get together with dinner and drinks :) Could be a fun way to break the ice and get to know one another!!!

UTMB Spring 2012
For the TEAS V, ATI actually makes a stugy guide. It was totally worth the money. Here is a link to the book. ( http://www.atitesting.com/ati_store/product.aspx?zpid=1194 ) I know it can be purchase elsewhere for cheaper, and I didnt buy the practice tests but that was just preference. Same with the Hesi book, made by Hesi for the Hesi.. ( http://www.amazon.com/Evolve-Reach-Admission-Assessment-Review/dp/tags-on-product/1416056351 )Most of the ?s came straight from the material in this hesi study guide.

UTMB Spring 2012
Institutional monies = anything that is given within the institue of UTMB.... if you do not provide your parental information on FAFSA, any grants/scholarships that are given away soloely by UTMB you will not be considered for. The Pell grant is a government grant and since I am over the age of 24 I will be considered as an individual by the government and will be eligible for it....I HIGHLY doubt i will get it though. My husband makes about 50k a year... which is probably WAY too much for any need based funding. It sucks because we have a house note and car payments, and all sorts of other bills and the fact that I am not working really taps us out...but the govt doesnt see it as that. They see it as 50k a year and we should be able to afford 5k a semester... So I am planning on loans loans and more loans... I will NOT let money be ther reason I do not do this...

UTMB Spring 2012
I am pretty sure it came via regualr mail. She said she recieved it today and I DOUBT they would send rejection emails on a Saturday. It is the first I heard of as well... I REALLY thought she would get in... or at least get an interview! I would assume that since a rejection letter has gone out that all spots have been spoken for at this point. I thought it was pretty awesome that I had to wait less than 48 hours. Now if only that could have happened back in August... Question... Is anyone going to be paying a car note while in school and not working? Are you putting that payment on loans? Curious as to what I am going to do. I have never had loans or FA and am worried all I will qualify for is loans. I will not be considered for institutional monies as my parents are refusing to give me the financial info for my fafsa...
