I know it's a little early, as applications are due until July 7, 2011, but I'm excited already and want to hear from others applying for the Spring 2012 semester. Anyone submit their application yet or in the process of submitting?
Hi everyone!
After reading through some previous posts here, talking to others in my classes, and just perusing around on different boards... I am extremely nervous about hearing from UTHCSA.
My overall GPA isn't that great, my pre-req GPA is good, but I didn't do that great on the TEAS either. I don't want to go all this way and through this whole process to just be denied or wait-listed. I know worrying about it won't help, but I just can't help it. Lol. :hdvwl:
Has anyone applied to other schools? I was going to apply to UIW, but kept being put in a phone tag fiasco, and I'm also looking at Wayland.
Also, has anyone started their immunizations yet? I'm not sure where to start regarding those. I know, as of 3 years ago, I was up to date with everything (HEP series included), but I'm not sure if I'll need to get more (or if I'll need to get titers for it all). And I know for sure I need to get TB testing done.
Another thing! Lol. (Looking ahead) Has anyone done their CPR training yet?
:sofahider:
Okay. I think that's enough for now. Haha.
@girlwarrior - I'm sure you are not alone in that boat because we are all just waiting and worrying at this point! The only part left to do in this process is to wait until we hear for the next move.
I didn't apply to other schools for the spring but might consider UIW as well as reapplying to UTHSCSA for the fall if I don't get into UTHSCSA for the spring.
I had all my immunizations except for TB, Varicella (titer), and meningitis (optional) but I went ahead and did all three a couple of weeks ago. The reason being that even if I don't get in for spring they'll still be good for fall. Plus I figured I'd get anything out of the way that I could.
I'm just as anxious, excited, and worried as you so no worries for wanting to know what everyone else is thinking! Plus it's reassuring to know you're not alone. :)
Does anyone know what the chances are of getting in at this point? Im really just hating how this whole process has been. I thought after the TEAS scores were submitted people would pretty much know whether they were in or not, but instead they have us waiting and worried. I just would hate to have gone all this way and not get in. I mean when i went to open house the lady told us that she didnt want to waste our time pretty much and I keep thinking since Ive made it this far that we pretty much have gotten in but its not like that. Someone told me that only 250 people applied for the spring 2012 semester and so only 100 people need to be knocked out technically. and I wanted to see what other people thought about this or whether or not they knew about anything about the process. I mean having our background checked and whatnot shouldnt be any of their business if we aren't going to be accepted but thats just my opinion i guess. lol :=:
@girlwarrior I've applied to UTHSCSA, TWU, UTMB, and UTHSC Houston. I havent started my immunizations yet but Im thinking I'll be cutting it a little close if I wait any longer...ahhh I just hate getting shots Also, I did my CPR training a few months ago. I'm hoping we hear something soon!
This is the only school I've applied to so I'm really hoping I get in. I want to start my immunizations already but I don't wanna do it for nothing if I don't get in....
Does anyone know if there is a time limit on the Hep series? That's the only one I'm really worried about because it can take up to 6 months for the 3 shot series. I had all 3 shots back in 1992 (such a long time ago!) but I'm not sure if I have to redo them or just get the titer. I guess I'll just call. And I actually have my CPR cert. already but it expires in March 2012. I'll probably just renew it then.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! Hopefully we here something soon. I am getting 1000000X more stressed just thinking and worrying about it!
Well, as usual, we are all in the same boat. I applied to UTHSCSA for Fall 2011 but was on the waitlist. I was told that Fall was the first time they didn't have people withdrawl from the program. In addition, I heard there were about 20 people that as of late July, early August had not "passed" the background check and needed to submit additional info. Had these folks not reconciled their "issues" i would have gotten in...boo!!! I believe this is why they wanted to maybe do a "quick" check on everyone, to avoid having to alter or modify their acceptance terms, etc. I may call tomorrow to find out more info. I agree with you Jenuine as why would they ask for our SS# if we weren't actually a finalist?!
SO, with regards to shots, I have completed mine. I would recommend to anyone that hasn't started their Hep series to start immediately. I didn't get the other required shots, rather had titers done. I also did the optional Meningitis, (why not)?
Did my CPR BLS Dec of 2010, good for at least another year. May have to have titers redone as they were done in March 2011. If anyone is needing to get certified, feel free to message me...I can refer you to the class that I took. It was about $40 and took about 1/2 day (only because there were 2 of us signed up for the class).
I hope we hear something VERY soon! I have been waiting almost a year! I hope to see all of you in class January 2012!
:3 Well for first semester, Pharm is the toughest class you will have. I guess my advice would be to study as you cover the material and don't wait to the end. I would make the effort to go online with the professors powerpoint slides and read that information from the book. There will be so much information in the Pharm book that you will not need that you really need to limit your concentration on the info that will be on the test. Study, Study, and Study!!! Make graph/charts/notebook cards.
Cost wise- I paid over $4,000. It just depends :3
Externships-I have had a couple of friends that have applied for student RN exterships during summer. You just have to be proactive and search hospital websites/career positions.
Fingers crossed. Your first semester (Spring 2012) would be my last semester :3
