UTHSCSA Spring 2012

Published

I know it's a little early, as applications are due until July 7, 2011, but I'm excited already and want to hear from others applying for the Spring 2012 semester. Anyone submit their application yet or in the process of submitting?

Hi everyone! I wanted to stop by this thread and see what's happening in the future class of December 2013! I started at UTHSCSA this fall and love it so far. Although I'm not an expert on the school nor do I have the perfect study schedule figured out, I'd be happy to help answer any questions you have, especially once you are accepted! :-) And don't let yourself believe you aren't good enough to make it in. . .that's not true! You do have the heart and determination to become a nurse and you will!! It was not long ago that I was in your shoes and I know exactly what it feels like to wait and wait and wait without knowing when the next tiny piece of information will be released! I was waitlisted for the Fall and then to my complete joy, was accepted pretty late in the summer {after I had just paid and applied for Spring 2012!} so I feel pretty blessed. Things work out the way they're supposed to. . . remember that!

One thing I wanted to mention was in regards to the laptops we are required to buy, just so you are aware. {Yes, required. . . even if you have a brand new one from your birthday/graduation/holiday. . .you must buy one through the HSC} Unless things are changing in the Spring, the laptops do not come pre-loaded with textbooks. I think I read in an earlier post that someone was under the impression that they did, so I wanted to make sure you all were aware of that. I paid around $1500 for the 13'' Macbook Pro (other option was Dell or a 15'' Pro for $2200) and decided against 'e-books' and paid probably close to $1000 in textbooks. I heard the e-books ran a little over $800 (don't quote me!) but there were a couple 'regular' textbooks that you had to buy on top of that because they didn't come in e-book form.

Stay calm and try to keep your mind off the admissions decision. {easier said than done, I know! :p} Best of luck and I hope to meet all of you at orientation in the Spring!

@hookemhorns012 - thanks for the info on computers. One followup on that, though, on the amount of the books ($1K or $800), was that for books needed for the entire 4 semesters of nursing school, or what? Also, can you give any feedback on Pharmacology? The reason I'm worried about this is because in the Traditional program last time I looked, and from what I can tell, it's a 1 semester 3-hour course, but in the Accelerated program it's broken down into 3 semesters for 1-hour each course. I'm thinking having it over 3 semesters would be more manageable than having it all in 1 semester. Maybe you've heard something from people in the Accelerated program? Thanks & best wishes to you!

It's been quiet here on our thread since we're all just not-so-patiently waiting to hear something. So here's to hopefully hearing something this week. *fingers crossed*

I was thinking the same....I truly hope that it will be done soon.

I've been checking to see if anyone's heard anything. But apparently no one has so LOL.

I'm so tired of this waiting and not knowing. It's throwing my whole semester off for school. *sigh*

Me too! Nothing as of yet. I was told by UTHSCSA that they were wanting to get all letters out by today's date, but was told, "...no promises..." Hopefully today will be the day! It seems we all have been waiting so long, not only are my fingers crossed, my eyes are too!!! Maybe at 3pm we'll know something!!! Let's hope!

were they gonna send out the letters via email or regular mail???

Well, based on how they did things for the folks that applied for Fall 2011, they first sent out an email and then an "official" letter was sent out by USPS, but things have changed a bit since the Fall applicants and things may be different...I hope we hear something soon!!!

Got my acceptance email around 2pm today! Good luck all!

Me too!!! Finally! Best wishes to everyone!

My email was sent at 2:36 pm. There are deadlines for fees to be paid by this Friday (10/14), so if you are mailing in a check, send today if possible!! I have a feeling the emails may be in batches, so keep checking if you haven't seen an email yet...best wishes to all!

I believe WBAN is right...I received my letter at 2:42pm. and just so you guys know, my last name begins with a "C", incase they are sending them in alphabetical order...
