UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants
There's at least 20 people in the Facebook group that are upperclassman...I'm one of them. The acceptance process is very slow at first and people were accepted into my class up until the first week of classes. I know that's not the ideal situation for anyone, but just know that anything can happen! Also, a lot of people had the same questions as y'all do about what they look for in selecting applicants when we went through this process just a few short months ago. Our personality/learning styles were all very different so it doesn't really seem like that is a deciding factor...

Get a Q Card!! It has saved so much money for many of my classmates and myself. I know a lot of people commute from The Woodlands and they don't seem to have any problems getting to school or back!

UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants
I just started this spring. Your schedule won't be all day everyday Monday-Friday. Right now, we have classes Monday 8-12ish, Tuesday 8-12 (sometimes until 4), Wednesday 8-4 (with a break from 11-1). Clinicals start around the 6th week and then you'll have an extra day either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. No one in my class wanted Saturdays, so for us, it's only Thursday or Friday. You'll be in the hospital from 6:30 am- 3:30 pm. The schedule becomes more compact during the summer semester but since y'all are applying for fall I imagine the schedule will be pretty similar, if not the same, as ours. One of the greatest lessons I've learned so far is to be flexible. They don't expect you to drop everything you've got going on instantly, but things can change and you just have to be ready for them. That being said, the teachers are VERY understanding and will do their best to help you succeed. Hope this helps!

UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants
Hey y'all! I'm a current student at UTHSC and I remember being in your shoes just a few months ago. Just wanted to tell y'all to try your hardest not to stress out! Transcript evals may come or they may not...it doesn't mean anything. I've heard of people in my class that didn't get one and I got at least 4 saying the same exact thing every time (none of which I called about/requested). UTHSC is an awesome school, but they seem to like to take forever to get through the applications. We started finding out we were accepted just about on the exact day we were told we would so I wouldn't worry too much if you don't hear anything for awhile. Good luck everyone!!

UTMB Spring 2012
It's been 10 days since my interview and TC said they'd let me know by today. I wouldnt be that upset if I didn't get in since I've been accepted to UTHSC Houston but it'd still be nice to know. @punkydoodles who do you recommend that we call to follow up? Ive been pretty unsuccessful this far when trying to contact/get information from people...

twu spring 2012 applicants!
Just so everyone in the Dallas area knows...I heard from a friend that lewisville hospital offers a nursing program through El Centro. You have to have job there for 6 months and a few prerequisite classes to apply. But apparently the hospital pays for everything and will even pay for a bridge program through UTA. Just thought I'd pass that info along!

UTMB Spring 2012
Hmm I had an interview with TC on Friday 11/4 and she told me to expect to hear something in 10 days from them...seems like we're all being told different things. I hate this wait!!

I saw earlier that someone posted that there will be an "admissions documents" hold...mine only has 4 holds right now which are CPR, immunizations, background check, and residency info. Is anyone else's different?

UTMB Spring 2012
Spring semester is exactly the same as fall semester as far as the classes you take. If you start in spring semester, you will be at school straight through the summer semester instead of the people that start in the fall who have summer off. After the summer semester, spring and fall students will both be on their third semester of nursing school and will all graduate together at the end of the following spring. Basically, people who start in the spring finish in less time than people who start in the fall because they go to school during summer. Hope this helps!

UTHSC (Houston) Spring
The 4 week hep b series is called twinrix...where I live (Dallas) I only found it to be offered as a travel vaccination in specific "travel clinics." it's super expensive...like almost $500 for all 3 shots and insurance doesn't cover it. I was freaking out thinking I didn't have any of the immunizations and was about to pay all that when I decided to try to track down my shor records. Ended up finding out I had hep b done as a kid forever ago and got titers done for immunity proof. If y'all can find your shot records (I had to call my elementary and high schools and finally my old pediatrician) it will probably save a lot of time and definitely a lot of money! :)

What? There is a spring semester for traditional BSN students...that's what we've all applied for.
