UTA Academic Partnership with Baylor Hospital System

I am an employee at Baylor Dallas, and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from UTA about the BSN academic partnership program that officially starts Jan.10, 2010 (the nursing classes not prerequisites). I am also just curious to talk to others who applied.;)

i'm sorry. i meant to say adn to bsn program. do they offer tuition assistance even if you are not employed at baylor hospital?

the program is named such because it's a "partnership" between uta and participating hospital systems. (baylor, texas health, hca, etc.) the lower tuition rates are for nurses working for these employers. other nurses, not employed by partner facilities, can still get into the program, but i believe are not eligible for the partnership rate. you would however, still be eligible to apply for assistance through uta's financial aid office. here's the website for more information: http://stateu.com/uta/nur_rn-bsn.asp

please note that uta also has academic partnership programs for their initial bsn (for non-nurses) and msn in nsg admin degrees as well.

Is anybody in the BSN Academic Partnership doing weekend clinicals? I was told that weekend clinicals are possible but not guaranteed. I need a nursing program that allows me to keep my Monday - Friday job.

Hi all! I am currently in my Junior 2 semester with the UTA Academic partnership. Let me tell you...it is absolutely crazy!! I will fill ya'll in some info that is not relayed during initial meetings with counselors. First, I love this program. But, it is VERY stressful and super fast-paced. I was not prepared for this when I signed up. I was working full-time at first, as the counselor said it would be no problem. Well, it was. I had to quit my job and focus on school full-time. You will be spending a minimum of 50-60 hours per week doing assignments, reading, and studying. Then you have clinicals on top of that, which is another 20 hours per week. There are 3 different sites that are partnered with UTA in which you will be assigned to one, Parkland, Baylor, or Medical City. Clincal days are not guaranteed to be the same each course. So you have to have flexibility in your schedule. For example, last semester we had clinicals on Sat/Sun. This semester it is Sun/Mon for one course and then Fri/Sat for another. There are not guarantees. You have to remember that this program is set up to be completed in 13months. Traditional programs are 24 months. You still have to learn everything that the traditional program learns but at a MUCH faster rate. So you will feel very overwhelmed at first, as most all of us did. But, you have to hang in there and keep telling yourself how much you want it and it is so worth it! Well I hope I have answered some of ya'lls questions. Feel free to ask. Good luck to all!

Hi jpchouston,

I recently found out that this program is not guaranteed on the weekend by the Nursing Education Manager at the hospital where I'm employed. So I decided to focus on getting into the TWU weekend program (part-time)...there are a few posts on here about the TWU Weekend Program.

Also, there are several students in that program that work fulltime...you may want to do some research about that program though. I think it takes 18-20 months to complete if I can remember...right now I am working on my pre-req courses.

Thank you RNwannabe for all your helpful information. The advisors are so busy, I'm having trouble getting any answers out of anyone!

My question for you is what was the admissions like? I haven't seem many posts about GPAs or Hesi scores. I understand the traditional track is tough to get into but haven't heard much about the AP.

I am wondering how competetive it is to get into the UTA BSN Program? I am an employee at Baylor & am hoping to apply to the BSN Academic Partnership Program through Baylor. I would love to hear from anyone who has made it into the program.

Also, does anyone know how the cumulitive GPA is figured? I have classes from over 10 yrs ago....will those count in my GPA?

Hi guys,

I've applied for the AP BSN Program at UTA as a THR dependent and wanted to know for those who got into the program.... your GPA's? Did u retake any courses?

In the past, I've had to retake some of the pre-requisite courses to improve my grade. Does the admission committee take the highest grade of the two for one course? Or do they average it together?

How many Nursing pre-requisite courses are we allowed to retake without being counted against?

Hi everyone!!! I am hoping to get accepted to the AP Online Nursing program at UTA. I have been trying really hard to get a job with one of the partner hospitals. Wanted to see if anyone is working at one of the partner hospitals like Baylor or HCA. How long did it take for you to hear anything after you sent in the application for employment. Thanks
