U.S.A. Texas

Hi,

I am an employee at Baylor Dallas, and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from UTA about the BSN academic partnership program that officially starts Jan.10, 2010 (the nursing classes not prerequisites). I am also just curious to talk to others who applied.;)

Hey,

Thanks goopsy, Congrats to you too!!!!! Thanks for the info about the email, but I'm partnered with Baylor Dallas. I work there as a Surgical Tech on weekends.

Hey guys...I got accepted also!!!!

congrats RNwannabe09! pinkORT, I wish I worked for Baylor! For the last 8 months, I have been on their website looking for a job as a nurse tech bc that is the only job at Baylor that they will pay for this program if you are working part time. All other jobs have to be full time. My husband has worked for Baylor for almost 4 years now, but spouse's don't qualify either. Which is dumb in my eyes. THR allows spouses and family members of the employee to qualify for tuition reimbursement, which is awesome!

Goopsy,

Yeah THR sounds pretty awesome for including spouses too, but I love my Baylor. However, I do know it's pretty hard to get in the door as far as employment goes. You pretty much have to "know someone" to get hired quickly. Are u leaning towards the fast track instead of the 2 yr program? Which hospital do you wanna be placed at if you pick the fast track?

Congrats RNwannabe09 & pinkORT!! I had a feeling we would all get in!! Goopsy I have been doing the same thing for the past 10 months or so with Baylor. I just wanted to get a job in any department and then change positions because I heard they do a lot of hiring within the company. I had an interview for an admin position but they hired within for the shift I applied for and asked me if I would like the overnight shift. I can't take a night shift yet...I have an 18month old & at the time she was 9 months. Not sure my husband would be able to handle that on his own...hehe. The job was also much less money than I make now so needless to say I did not take the position. I am kicking myself now becasue I would love to work for Baylor so hopefully it all works out! I even got my CNA certification thinking I could get a job as a PCT but since I have no experience they will not even consider me.

Oh well, I know it's not in my control & everything will work out the way it's supposed to! Congrats again to everyone!! :nurse:

I am in an academic partnership program with Med city. I have 4 classes left. It is very doable while working FT. The first nursing class, professional Nursing A&B is a pain in the butt, but once you get past this it is a great program that I wish I would have started a long time ago.

what are the benefits of doing rn to adn program through uta? do hospitals offer employement once they are finished with program?

i'm confused...they offer rn to adn? or rn to bsn? or do you mean rn-adn referring to rn's with a diploma?

i'm sorry. i meant to say adn to bsn program. do they offer tuition assistance even if you are not employed at baylor hospital?

Yeah it is really confusing. I am currently taking Patho, Pharmacology, and Intro to Nursing. You have to have these completed before entering into the actual nursing program. You can be accepted into the Academic Parnership and take those courses. Then you apply for the nursing program. I do not have to sign a contract with Parkland once I am completed. All Parkland offers is tuition reimbursement of $3000 per year. So I have to pay for the program upfront and then request for reimbursement. As of now there has been no financial aid (student loans) available through UTA Academic Partnership. They stated since it is decreased tuition the school was not allowing loans to be available. But I see now that they have changed it and loans are going to be available starting in January. That was my biggest concern. Trying to still work full time and pay for the $16,000 tuition and books. I also received the e-mails (2) stating I had been accepted but it was an error in the system. There are 9 start dates per year for the classes. So everytime a class starts they send out those stupid e-mails. Anyways, hopefully I receive my letter tomorrow!!! Let me know when the rest of ya'll hear something. Good Luck!

Hi RNwannabe09,

1st I would like to say congrats to all who were accepted into the Nursing section of the UTA AP BSN program for Jan 2010!!! I work for Parkland and just found out about this program like yesterday and I never seen this thread but I started a new thread to get more info on how things are going? Unfortunately, when I do apply I would be starting the program as a Pre-nursing student b/c I have about 12 pre-req courses I need to complete plus the 3 Pre-Nursing courses. I believe the program offers 5/8/12 week pre-req courses available to assist you with getting into the program faster. I will be working fulltime so the online method is perfect and being that we would do our clinicals at our current employer I am really shooting for this program. Originally, I was really trying to get in the TWU Weekend Program but this makes more sense to pursue since it offers the HUGE discount and financial aid is available.

Now RNwannabe09, once you begin the nursing program, like now hopefully, Parkland offers the SNAP program, which is a scholarship for current employees who are in the jr/sr years of the nursing program. The scholarship is $2500 per semester...much better than the $3000 per year tuition reimb. However, you can only use one of the two...you may want to contact Nurse Education, Jennifer Bentley, (I believe she is the AP Student Coordinator) for more info. In fact, she should be contacting you soon because she would be the one to manage the coordination of the clinical segment of the program.

We definitely need to keep in touch.:) After speaking to the Enrollment Counselor yesterday, he is estimating that I may be able to be accepted into the June 2011 program. :D So I would love to keep in touch with you and all of the other new students in the program. How are things going?

I will send you a friend request...again would love to stay connected.
