hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.
Can't wait to hear from others.
No problem Kimmy, glad I am helpful! LOL
I have a question maybe someone else could answer for me though.
My ACT scores test me out of college algebra, so I am taking statistics (MATH 1342) in the fall. Does this complete my core requirements for the BSN if I don't take any other math courses? I hear conflicting things, and no one has answered this to my satisfaction as yet.
Also, if I need to take a core copetency class for the degree (i.e. college algebra, etc) can I take that while in nursing school since it is not technically a pre-req? Otherwise, I don't really have the room in my schedule. I know that UT does not allow pre-reqs to be taken after the start of the program date, but what about a non pre-requisite course?
cjb, have you received the transcript conversion from UTHSC-H yet? It shows specifically what classes you have, what you don't have. As far as I can tell, there is no section that requires College Algebra, but if you did take it, I'm sure it would apply for the 5 smh requirement for electives.
As far as I know there is no core competency requirement since Statistics generally requires that prereq as it is.
If you go to UT website ....look at the pre-req transfer guide. It tells you exactly what you have to take. The only MATH class they require is statistics....you can tyake PSYC or MATH statistics. I just took PSYC Statistics and it was pretty easy. TWU is the college that requires you to be "core complete" UT doesnt. Everything you need to take is right there on the website. I printed it out and checked off what I had and what I needed and scheduled my classes accordingly.
MaoKhan, thanks for the info, I will keep an eye out for the transcript conversion. I have plenty of courses for the electives, I am just worried I will get through the BSN program at UT and then be informed that I'm not core competent and therefore can't receive a degree.
Emag, I have all the pre-reqs met, but it was brought up during the information session that strictly having the statistics class may not make you core competent. While UT may not put emphasis on that, in order to receive a bachelor's degree at any school, you must meet state standards for core competency. Hence, my question.
Just wanted to address a NET question I noticed today. I was reading through the entire thread a second time and saw someone asked if August 22nd was too late for the UT application, and the answer is that it is not.
At the information session we were told that since it only takes a week or less for UT to receive your NET scores, the 22nd of August was perfectly acceptable, and also that if that date filled up and they offered, say, a September 2nd date, if you call the school and tell them they will call ERI and try to arrange for that date to be admissable for the application process, even though it is after September 1st.
I hope this is helpful to someone!
Hi. I've been reading this thread off and on for awhile, and am applying so I thought I should introduce myself.
I'm applying for spring 2010, but I guess that's obvious. So far I've submitted my application, application fee, and just sent off my transcripts today. I have myself registered to take the NET in San Antonio on August 15th. I think there's something else I'm supposed to get done but I can't check because I get this message when I check UTLink
UTLINK can not create a session. If your attempt was during normal operating hours, this may be due to high activity.
I guess 2-6am are peak use hours (I'm a nocturnal kind of guy)
This is the second school I'm applying to. My first choice is UTHSC San Antonio, since it's 10 minutes away. I'm also applying to Midwestern State as a backup.
My GPA is in the 3.7 range and I'm currently volunteering in the ICU at the hospital for the summer.
That's pretty much everything I can think of to say about me for the moment. If I end up coming here it'd be really cool to meet some of the people on this forum and go into the program not feeling alone.
I take the NET this Saturday and I am studying with the ERI study guide I purchased at Majors Book Store in the Med Center and I just read the "written expression" section and it's mainly pro-noun usage, subject-verb agreement etc. Could someone who has taken the NET already explain to me what this section of the NET is like? Are we writing a sample and they critique it? Or are we identifying these grammatical correlations in a given writing? I am a little confused. Also a heads up to all those applying to UTMB as a back-up, like myself, the deadline is this Friday.
