UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls

Published

hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.

Can't wait to hear from others.

Specializes in none as of yet, hoping for ped oncology!.

I am taking the NET tomorrow at 1pm, so I will get on and let you all know how it is.

Also, just submitted my application today! So I've got my fingers crossed, I hope to be taking classes with you guys in January!:yeah:

Specializes in Women's Services.

I just wanted to say good luck to you all! There is a fall 2009 thread, just in case anyone needs any advice on the process. :)

So I took the NET, and here is the breakdown. The math part was not hard at all, there is nothing more complicated on it than basic algebra. There are a LOT of percent and fraction problems, so if you haven't done them in a while, I suggest you brush up.

The reading and comprehension part wasn't too hard. Make sure you read the question carefully, as it asks for purpose, theme, and main idea, all of which can be different for the same paragraph. The beginning of the test is a one minute portion in which you read for one minute and then note the line number you got to. After that, you can finish reading the selection and answer the questions. I did not get finished with the whole selection in the one minute (which I think is impossible) but after the 1 minute portion I had more than enough time for the remaining reading selections and questions, and I was even able to go back and double check my answers, but I am an admittedly fast reader. However, I don't see that anyone should have a problem finishing at least.

The science section was harder than I expected. It is called basic science, but the questions are from A&P I for the most part, so if you haven't taken it, be prepared to be confused. It doesn't count towards your score, but I don't know if the college sees it or not.

The written expression portion was mostly subject-verb agreement and spelling, with some pronoun questions.

The rest of it is for your own personal knowledge, such as the stress profile, learning style, and testing skills. Nothing special there.

All in all, it was not too bad, and certainly not as horrible as many have made it out to be. I will say this though, there were several people taking the test with me whom frankly, I hope do not make it into nursing school, or I fear for our very lives. That sounds harsh, but when you can't understand the directions on how to write and bubble in your name, I don't think nursing is for you.

hello, any other males applying? lol

quick intro on myself. I'm currently an LPN licensed through the Army. I'm still in the US Army Reserves and should be out by next March for good. As a medic/LPN in the military, I also have EMT-B, ACLS. It was only through the Army that I realized how fulfilling Nursing is. I have a bout 8 months Medical/Surgical experience, 15 months ICU in Iraq, 3 months PACU, and did a little contract nursing after getting off active duty.

I too heard that the most important first step in the application process is to get that interview and those that scored under 70% Reading did not even get a chance. I scored a 100 on Math, 74 on the Reading *ouch*. Currently looking at a 4.0 overall gpa though I will still need a few classes after summer.

UTHSC is my first choice as this is my hometown. Anyone from the Sugar Land area? Best of luck to everyone and hope to see you at an interview :nuke:

Thank you for your service. My husband spent several years in the Marines in a SAR unit, and he has about a year left in IRR and then his contract is over.

Awesome GPA and Math score, maybe the reading won't drag you down. Depends on the other applicants most likely, but the prior medical experience you have should really give you a boost! Good luck!

Hi Richard, welcome to the board. I know at very least in my sociology class this summer that there are 2 or 3 guys that are going into the nursing field. Not sure if they're planning on doing the associates or bachelors program. But, none the less there are other guys out there going into the arena of nursing ;) It does seem to be more of a female dominated industry though.

You've definitly got a foot up on a lot of other people with your great grades and military experience. That will be really helpful for you when it comes time to apply to the program and also when you start searching for a job.

My dad was in the Navy for 28 years and retired as a senior chief, so it can be good experience, however it's not for everyone. I have recently looked into the scholarship programs for medical doctors. Getting your entire 4 years of med school paid for is very tempting, however I'm not sure if the military would fit my lifestyle. I'm married with a 1 1/2 year old daughter and I just don't know if it's for me.

Thanks for your service and best of luck with your schooling! :)

Does anyone know where this HESI A2 study guide moved too?

http://www.westcoastuniversity.edu/uploadedFiles/20_Admissions/HESIStudyGuide.pdf

I have this study guide (I guess I downloaded it before they took it off). If anyone else needs it, I would be happy to email it to you if you just PM me your email address.

hey cool, I graduated from Clements on 03, lol.

I found the NET study guide at Majors book store in the Houston Medical Center off Fannin. It was $35 and it was written by ERI. ERI is who the NET was written by so I hear this is the best study guide to use. Hope this helps

Is anyone else applying to UTMB as a backup? I really dont want to go there but would if necessary
