Male Nurses that lift weights and stay fit
Good luck to you guys. I'm prior service Army and just graduated from the UTHSC Houston BSN program. I'm not particularly a big heavy olympic type lifter but I stayed in shape going to gym about 4 times a week doing supersets to save time. I also use a rice cooker and just cook most of my meals at one time. I would say that lifting suffered when it came to crunch time but if you've got a good routine, I dont think it's too hard taking a few days break now and then. I cycle for cardio.

LVN to military nursing
the complication here is that while there is/used to be a program that allows you to come in straight as 68WM6, your primary MOS will be 68W which requires you to have EMT-B. Technically you will have to get that in order to maintain the MOS and you definitely do not want to place yourself in a position where you lose your MOS and get reclassed. Since you are so close to finishing your BSN, I'd suggest that you skip out enlisting altogether and go commissioned.

UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls
we currently have classes Mon 8-12 + lab, Tues- 8-12 some days until 4, Thurs 8-4, For the first 2 months you will also have lab on Fridays for roughly 2-3 hours. I'll be honest and say that this will probably be the busiest you have ever been. It's 16 hours but there can be up to a thousand pages of reading needed for a test at times. No, I don't read everything, but we are still responsible for the material. I feel bad for those that have families and even more for those that have to work to support them. I don't know how they do it. Oh, when Friday labs are over, then we start clinicals which includes 7 shifts on the hospital that requires a 25pg writeup, roughly. I hope that helps

UT Houston Summer 2010 Accelerated Program
Hey guys since this is the first day, I wouldn't freak out yet. It took them about a week to get everyone's UTlink changed.

You're officially accepted once you complete the prerequisite process. Most people don't have all classes finished at the time of application. Pretty important because there were students in our class that could not register for classes.

I might be on the extreme end. I'm prior service military, medic with a nursing identifier. I am LVN licensed, EMT-B licensed, ACLS qualified and have a little over 2 years of experience under my belt. I did my prereqs at HCC and came out with a 4.0. I think I scored a 76 on the reading comprehension, 100 on th math. Please don't be discouraged as I think I am the only LVN in our student body. However I can say that if you have a Bachelor's already, you prob have a much higher chance for acceptance. I think more than half our student body have bachelor's in something. Reading back, I noticed a lot of drama going on. Guys, it's not worth it. If anything, it only gets worse when school starts and you really get to find out about people's personalities. Again best of luck, looking forward to meeting our juniors. Richard

I think I have the regular Cardiology. Even now, I don't know if I could say I could hear the difference between the Classic II. Sorry no idea about shoes. I guess my recommendation is get something comfortable for you since a nursing shift is 12 hrs long, that's a lot of standing. I just got some New Balance.

Littman's are great as they are a good investment. Classic II is the lowest I'd go. I have the Cardiology III myself. They require all white shoes for clinicals that are leather based for protection. Most of us don't have all white shoes though. They let us get away with shoes that are predominately white.
