The Bad & The Ugly About West Coast University, Orange County
I had an awful experience with them as well. I was in their LVN to RN program in LA. Classrooms have 50-60 students. Sometimes there was no instructor available to tutor even though there were flyers of where and what time tutor sessions were held. This happened often. What nattlebug says is very true. For me however, it came down to microbiology before entering the actual nursing part of the program. I needed an A in the final to move along and was told they would contact me if I didn't make it. This was a friday and new class started the following thursday. I received an A in micro! Yay! I sat through 2 weeks of lecture before they called me saying, "I'm very sorry but you did not pass micro with A." Within a week I was dropped from the program and my financial aide status was closed from the school. I was devastated! I cried until I couldn't any more. After all this I got ANGRY! Turns out my micro instructor did not add an assignment to my overall grade. At this time I was told I can appeal so I can return to the program. WHAT?!!!! After numerous calls and 3 visits from Orange County to Los Angeles I was told I needed to re-submit an application for financial aide. Not to mention return to the program 2 months after with a different batch of victims. I pay $440 every month for the education I received from there. I'm on a waiting list for a RN program at SAC now. I think they handled this situation very poorly.

My Needlestick, I'm crazy!
"Treat every patient as if they were infected with HIV" Regardless of your patient's low risk, report it. I had a needle stick with a 4 year old child and had to get tested for Hep B, Hep C, HIV initially, then at one month, 2 months, 3 months, 6 months, and a year after exposure. The child had to be checked as well. It's scary. Good luck.

LVN to military nursing
Hey all! This is my 1st post so bare with me. I've been a LVN for 6 years. I'm currently on a waiting list for the RN program (2 year wait). I work home health, urgent care, and do intermittent visits NOW. I am a work-a-holic! I enjoy it though...money is good and I can always make more or work less if I choose to. I spoke with a naval recruiter yesterday and he said there were no openings in nursing!!! I also spoke with an Army recruiter and he said the ARMY does have nursing opportunities. I don't have an associate's degree but I am interested in military nursing. Can I go in as a LVN and work my way up to RN in military? Has anyone done this and if so what steps did you take? I want to do it for experience and not money. I hear I may be taking a 30% pay cut but I want to be the best RN I can be.
