UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls

Published

hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.

Can't wait to hear from others.

Specializes in none as of yet, hoping for ped oncology!.

Hello all!

I'm also applying for Spring 2010 admission, good luck to everyone! I am finishing up two summer courses (A&PII and Hist1301) and then I can submit my application. I have more than enough credit hours to meet the 40 hour requirement, but not all of them are in the required pre-requisites, unfortunately. Then the last of my courses will be in the fall, including microbiology (best for last?). I take the NET on Saturday. Honestly, how difficult is this test? I've heard horror stories, but it is described as a test of general knowledge and reading comprehension. Someone clue me in, please!

Also, I am wondering how important community service is to admission. I'm very involved with my church, but I also have a 16 month old and my husband travels 250 days out of the year, making volunteer work rather difficult with a full course load. Hoping that's not going to hinder me! If I get in, I plan to my daughter in full-time daycare, but for now, a family friend keeps her when I go to class, and I study around her schedule.

My GPA info:

Overall 3.94

Sciences: 4.0

Im scheduled to take the NET Aug 1! I am sooo nervous, I hear a lot of people do really bad on the reading section to, I feel like I have a good gpa.

Science 4.0

Pre req 3.73

my pre req use to be a 3.80....the spring semster kicked my butt a little. I know that the NET is basically going to determine if I get an interview so good luck to all! Also is everyone filling out the applciation online ?

Congrats guys on your awesome gpa's! That's great! I hope that I'll be able to keep my grades up that high as well. I'm currently taking 2 summer courses so that I can start my science classes this fall semester.

I'm in the same boat as you Cj in regards to not having a lot of spare time for volunteer work. We have a 1 1/2 year old daughter so she keeps me busy. I'm not working, but I am going to school full time, and being a full time wife and mother on top of it, it is very difficult to find ways to get outside xp in the medical field. You would hope that they would take into account that you are a full time spouse, parent, and student on top of it. Talk about rigor! :lol2:

I recently contacted the children's hospital downtown to see about volunteer opportunities. They say you can volunteer a couple hrs a week, but they've changed up their application process. So now you have to go through an interview and then if you get accepted you go through an orientation and health screen. I'm sure it's all just precautionary since you are working in a volunteer position with the patients. I was really interested in it though since I'm wanting to get into pediatrics and I don't know of any nurses personally that I can shadow for xp.

Best of luck with your Net exams!

Keep up the good work! ;)

Exactly! My daughter is 16 months, almost the same age as yours, and most days its all I can do to get all my schoolwork done and keep her entertained, clean, and fed! :D

Hi everyone. Its good to know that I'm not hte only one who has my hands full with work, school and kids. I have a 5yr old and a 13month old. About the NET, I took mine already. It was not difficult at all if you study from the NET book that ERI sells. The only factor is time. You have to be real fast specially on the reading section. I would suggest timing yourself when you study/practice for it. There wa also a science section with a few questions. However I was told that the science did not count towards the NET score. Keep in touch everyone.

No kidding! lol sometimes I feel like a one woman circus trying to juggle everything. But I keep telling myself that getting through school, though daunting right now is going to be worth it in the long run. She'll be in school once I finish school, so it's going to be worth the effort. Just keep your chin up and stay on track and things will work out fine. ;)

Thanks for the comparisons so I know where I stand. I made an A in STATS and Micro that I just finish last week so I am hoping that bumps up the regular GPA even higher than a 3.6. Have you guys gotten your UT Link ID and password in the mail? You get it after you complete your application. I got mine and they list your 3 GPA's (Science, NUrsing Pre-req, and regular pre-req) on there based on what they get from your transcripts. My UT LInk GPA was way different that my regular college one so just a heads up. They calculate their own GPA for you based on what their pre-reqs are and what grades you made in that class. I believe in the nfo session they said to get your online application done by July 15th TODAY.....your NET, Transcripts, and all that are not due till Sep 1st but I think they want the app. done by then. Feel free to verify but I am pretty sure. I have literally done everything except take my NET and submit it as far as paper work goes so if you have any questions about the APP process feel free to ask. Oh...I also got a 2nd letter in the mail from UT with a printout of all the courses they accepted and what I still needed. You all shoould be getting it a few weeks after your online app is complete. Hope this helps. Also can anyone confirm about only taking the NET once a year...you cant keep retaking it?

Hey guys! I just submitted my application today, thanks for the heads up EMAG! is anyone taking the net Aug 1?

I am taking it August 1st as well..see you there...my name is Erin...

I'm taking it august 1st too! :wink2: I just took the HESI A2 for nursing and i did really well so i'm on a high!
