University of Phoenix owner sells as 50,500 students flee - Feb. 8, 2016

We knew it was coming. We tried to warn you. On-line for-profit schools are scams.

They'll be ok in the end. If we are still talking about The College Network & their crap, their is hope for all of these "institutions".

With the sheer number of nonprofit schools that offer affordable online degree programs, there's not much of a good reason to consider UofPhx these days.

Someone who wanted to earn an online degree in 1996 basically had to choose UofPhx. However, it's 2016 and thousands of budget-friendly online options exist.

I pay $230/credit to attend an online MSN-nursing education program at a regional state university. The same program would cost a whopping $600 per graduate level credit at UofPhx. I think the public has wised up about the more affordable educational products in today's marketplace.

Not to mention the Dept of Defense has shut University of Phoenix out of military bases around the country. No more current and former servicemen and women to prey on.

Thank Obama.

Yes! Praise God that no more folks are cheated by the University of Phoenix! Totally agree that Obama saved us!

Thank Obama.

I'm inferring sarcasm from your post. Nevertheless, yes, THANKS. Solid work, trying to go after these scuzzy, shady for-profit schools.

I would love to see all of these "schools" shut down, and I do applaud the Obama administration for attempting to set some limits and restraints on them, esp. since most of them are operating almost exclusively on Federal student loan money.

U of P has a poor reputation as far as employers are concerned, anyway. It's no loss that they are closing.

Your posts are interesting. I got my BSN from UOP years ago. Why? Because I lived in a rural area and the local nursing schools lost their accreditation in their undergraduate programs and graduate programs. The cost was about the same. I also got my MSN from UOP...cost about the same and I paid for it myself as many of my other nursing colleagues did WITHOUT any federal loans. So, your posts seem to be very generalized with regard to UOP. My experiences were positive. I learned quite a bit. My employers have been in different facilities in different states and they were glad that I worked hard for my degrees and did not give me a hard time about what school I attended. Many door opened for me and continue to open. I think all of you need to be very careful about posting negative comments about online nursing classes and degrees. I have also read negative things about other online nursing classes and degrees. So, if you most post negative comments about online nursing classes and degrees, post about all of them not just one of them. I think it is great that technology can be used for educating nursing and I hope nurses take advantage of those opportunities.

I have no problem with online programs, as evidenced by the fact that my MSN came from one. My problem is with SPECIFIC programs that use predatory recruitment practices, inflate their job placement statistics, and are beholden to their shareholders for their bottom line.
