Starting a new thread for those that will be applying to Union University for the Fall 2020 class in Jackson, TN.
I have actually. It seems like a lot of speculation and negativity, especially from you. I’m looking for other opinions or knowledge regarding the program. They have had a successful program, and I’m sure If needed they will find staff to continue to be successful. As far as the quality of the programs I just wanted to know if anyone has more knowledge than me to simply compare the two.
If I have been “negative, or speculative” it’s because I am trying to make People aware of a program that could very well not have a class next year. You forget I have, a long with the other students, spoken to the dean of nursing, the president of the school, and the staff. I love Union but we are in major trouble. Your naive if you believe 4 new professors will fall from the sky in the next 6 months for substantially less money than they are already making. The anesthesia community is very small and our reputation is more tarnished every day. There are many specific reasons but I won’t “speculate” about them on here, your best interest would be to contact the actual school and see how much fluff you receive on the future of the program. I hope that I am very wrong because I sacrificed a lot as well as all of you to attend Union. Good luck though man in the past both schools have had outstanding programs.
Yeah, Scott.. I would have to agree with SRNA-UU. I am an anesthesia student at Union as well. Just based on your statement, you seem to be a bit vulnerable or simply unaware of the extent of this situation that Union is facing. You’re not alone. There certainly are others that simply believe that everything will work out perfect and no additional issues will arise. & they too may be vulnerable as well. Don’t get me wrong, everything may very well work out just fine, but wishful thinking guarantees nothing. The fact of the matter is, no program is inevitable. When something to this extent occurs, it is more than capable of causing a program to close its doors. I’m a pretty positive individual by the way, so please don’t make the assumption that I am also being “negative”. I’m simply being a realist and telling you the truth. Your optimism is great! Heck, we are all hoping for the best, but at the same time, it is never a bad idea to be prepared for the worst. Do what’s best for you, but never regret your decisions. Good luck.

Is there something that the current classes are doing to fight for the faculty? Who is above the dean that would be able to make that call? I’m sure all of the students as well as the incoming students will stand up for the faculty, they were a HUGE reason union was a top competitor. It’s really upsetting that this dean might break up such a good program.
is there any hope for the faculty to even stay though? Or are they SET 100% on quitting, no matter what compromise the dean has?

Meeting the teachers from Union was such an amazing experience! I felt so connected to them and hope they somehow stay, which i doubt. One thing to keep in mind is that this program was started in 2006. Programs must follow guidelines and standards to make sure the student is getting the proper education. We have to think positive and hope that they find people to fill these spots. Will they close an extremely large funding educational program? I highly doubt it! This is a business and it has to continue to prosper. For those that are terrified of what will happen please watch out for yourself but do not take a spot if you don’t want to hang on for the ride. Guys lets try not to assume and start rumors. Emotions run high but as nurses we know how the sayings go, “We can all be replaced so always do your best”.
