They plan on still accepting a full cohort. The majority of the seats have been filled and those accepted have been made aware of current issues. I don’t see them doing anything different with this deadline/interviews.

I'm surprised everyone this cohort has decided to stay despite the issues at hand. Do you know how many seats are left?

From what you're saying it seems like the dean of the school is causing the issues. So even if they do find new professors for the nurse anesthesia program, I'm not sure that that means that the program still wouldn't suffer. Am I correct in assuming that?

That's certainly the way it feels. It is very unfortunate.

& yeah @S3682, if things did happen to work out, and they were able to hire faculty, they would have to have an incoming class to keep the program going. So regardless of what the situation turns into, they are going to accept new people until it is determined that the program will close, a teach-out is established, etc. We dont know much of anything. We're just hopeful at this point.

2/3 full roughly perhaps a little more. You could most likely call the program coordinator and get an exact number. I am sure after paying a deposit and being accepted most are going to ride it out.

Prayers for all involved. So much is at stake for some.

I withdrew my acceptance because I was accepted elsewhere. The school is going to refund my deposit.

Just received a wonderful phone call from Dr. Harden, she was very upfront and honest about the current situation of the school. Per our conversation, the program has no plans of being shut down and Union university is devoting all its resources to recruitment. I really hope best in this situation, I’ve been looking at this program for a while and can’t wait to interview in March.

Have you already got an interview date?

Over the phone, I am sure she was extremely nice and personable. But one thing that I can promise you, she definitely was not "upfront". She talks a good talk, but she hasn't even been upfront with the currently enrolled students. The word that comes to mind is conniving. We are hopeful as well, but I am convinced at this point that she is the root of the problem. Trust me when I tell you, we looked into Union for many of the same reasons you did, its an excellent program. The current faculty is what has made it such an excellent program. I just hope that she is able to recruit staff that can uphold the standards and excellence that has been established. & if you knew the current professors, you'd realize why that is going to be a difficult feat. Nonetheless, not saying the outcome won't be good. I'm simply saying be mindful because she talks a good talk, but as we know, talk only goes so far. We need results. & this is not an attempt to be negative about the situation, there's been enough negativity to go around, and I prefer to see the glass as half full. I just like for people to be informed. Best of luck with the process!

Now I’m wondering why she would be making calls personally if, from what was being explained before, she didn’t want the anesthesia program to succeed. This is all so very convoluted.

It's a COA (Council on Accreditation - Credentialling body for anesthesia programs) requirement that she updates current and potential students of what is going on and the situation that the program is in. Currently enrolled students get a weekly update because of this requirement. Also, if there is hope for the program and she is able to hire new faculty, there has to be an incoming class. That being said, in the midst of all that is going on, there has to be something that gives those interested in matriculating a reason to continue to pursue Union's program. And the only thing to offer is communication. I just hate that it's not coming from someone that I have learned to be a not so trustworthy. Please do understand, prior to this issue, I had no problems with her at all, and she SEEMED like a very nice lady. But since this issue came about, a lot more has been revealed and true colors are starting to show. I'm not saying lose hope, because we as currently enrolled students have to keep the hope as well. The last thing that we want to do is relocate, as many of us have already had to do. We would simply like facts, and I think it will take some time to receive factual information. So just hang on tight, and have a plan B just in case things don't work out. Best wishes with everything! I hope things ultimately work out, and you guys able to matriculate in.
