Starting a new thread for those that will be applying to Union University for the Fall 2020 class in Jackson, TN.
Here is the deal guys. I want to be as transparent as possible. I am a current nurse practitioner student at Union so I cannot speak of particulars directly related to the nurse anesthesia program. However, from my very own experience, I truly believe that the Dean of the college of nursing is making an attempt to shut this program down. Not that this is her full intent, but I believe that she will NOT care if it does close. She is my Dean, and while I have never had a personal issue with her, the issues that others have with her are very apparent. I have even heard rumors of her intentionally targeting nurse anesthesia students and making it difficult in some of the courses that she teaches. I have the belief that she does not have the best interest for the nurse anesthesia program, and the best case scenario is only a possibility without her in the picture. If this is her approach with the students, I highly doubt that she actually has a good relationship with their faculty. I have overheard some of my very own nurse practitioner professors express having problems with her, and she is actually an NP herself! And it is definitely CONFIRMED that their entire faculty is leaving, because I actually just looked online and they have positions posted. Four professors NEVER leave at once for no good reason. Something stinks...
I have only met two of their professors, and the ones that I know are truly spectacular, Christian individuals. I have spoken with a couple of the nurse anesthesia students and nobody has been told anything significant. I can't imagine what they are going through, all while trying to just get through school. This could easily be our program going through this. Once more, the things that I have mentioned are only speculation, but these are things that have been said by many, many people, so I believe them to be true. Please do take heed to actual students that have previously commented, especially since they know first hand. I personally know current students that are considering transferring to other programs. Understand that you do have a voice. Injustice to any of us is an injustice to all of us. We have to stick together as nurses. This just doesn't seem right and students are suffering because of it. I think they have met with the dean, the provost of our school, and our president already, but still, contact everyone one of them as often as you see fit. As bad as I feel for saying this, they are kind of the gossip of the university right now so it should not be hard to get information, being that I have heard so many rumors. Best of luck to you guys. I just hope they can find teachers at this point, which is kind of the only real hope for their program.

From what you're saying it seems like the dean of the school is causing the issues. So even if they do find new professors for the nurse anesthesia program, I'm not sure that that means that the program still wouldn't suffer. Am I correct in assuming that?

Ditto, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd really like to see the current faculty stay. Obviously I'm completely clueless about the circumstances. Perhaps the faculty has even already made their contingency plans as I'm sure many of us are doing now. But I gotta think the best solution to this problem would involve finding a way to convince the board/dean to retain the current faculty.
