I am not a subject matter expert on school closings, you can research for yourself Council of accreditation for nurse anesthesia educational programs standards, refer to section P10. From my interpretation it covers current students who are enrolled in the program and experience closure unexpectantly to a accredited school. It does not cover incoming students, plus unions accreditation runs out in 2022 without a faculty they can’t go through the process of extending the accreditation process. Perhaps the current faculty have a plan for assisting placing students in other programs if the worst case scenario happens, I don’t know this is all speculation. The school still plans to hire a staff so none of this occurs. From the meeting we had the other night though as far as I know the teach out applies to 1st and 2nd year students only, as the 3rd year will be graduating in July and won’t be effected regardless.

I didn't go to this school, but I'm curious to see how the entire situation unfolds. Word on the street is they're trying to cut CRNA faculty pay by 30% to match with NP faculty (even though CRNA tuition cost 300+ more/unit) which is leading to the mass exodus.

Rumor has it that this was all started by NP faculty that were jealous of CRNA faculty pay. NP faculty is closer to administration and voila; 30% pay cut proposed. I heard there are also proposals for NPs to teach CRNAs (They won't be staying in compliance with the COA with that one as our educations and knowledge base/depth are vastly different).

Good luck trying to attract faculty with pay that low. Hope UU admin sees this post. There are 100+ CRNA programs in the country. Do yourself a favor and choose a different one. The good news for current students is by law UU will be required to have a "teach-out plan" with another school if it gets that far. Hopefully it doesn't though.

This is a bad situation for students and I would avoid it if possible. Best case scenario is the nursing Dean is replaced soon and the CRNA faculty stay. CRNAS aren’t going to work for NP salaries.

I got waitlisted and paid my deposit. If they give me a slot I would have to take it or lose my $1,000. I hate it for the students who got accepted and turned down other offers only to be caught in this cross fire. Like one stated Union is my top school because of the Faculty and their desire to see their students succeed. I pray that this is figured out soon for current and potential students

So they have $1000.00 from you and haven’t even accepted you? I’d contact the Dean of Students and ask for my money back. Or walk away, that’s a small cost to avoid the situation.

Yeah they make you pay the same deposit as those who are accepted. I wonder why they are still interviewing and accepting students when they don’t know the fate of the program at this point.

I would say continue interviewing and accept other offers. If Union doesn’t bottom out, show up on the first day of class. If it does, you have a back up plan. Once you are enrolled, the teach out applies to you regardless.

University of St Francis closed and the students who were accepted early last fall but haven’t started, were left high and dry. They can file lawsuits since the school knew it was closing since January 2019.

Why show up the first day if you have another option? It’s not ethical to hold seats in multiple programs.

Unfortunately I'm one of those who was accepted to another program, but turned down the seat out of an abundance of respect for others since I had already committed to Union. Now I'm just hoping things work out.

Absolutely, and if possible, attend another program. But don’t hold a seat you don’t intend to use.

Of course, this entire situation is extremely disheartening. I'm looking forward to the day when this is just a footnote in my path to becoming a successful CRNA.

This breaks my heart that this is happening to this program. This was my second year applying and second interview but I wasn't accepted either year. Union has always been one of my top schools due to the faculty and their investment in the students.
