If your uniform gets really, really messed up in clinicals, what do you do?

I only have clinical once a week this Fall and since we have to get the expensive Dove scrubs, I am only buying one set... so I'm wondering...

I can't believe how expensive 1 uniform is for your guys! that is just ridiculous. is there anyway you could find some "look alike" scrubs to have as back up? I know you can get a 3 pocket white scrub top at walmart for$10 or $12. I bet they wouldn't even be able to tell.

Our uniforms are not scrubs, they have ribbon piping in the collar and had to be special ordered with our school logo.

The uniforms are supposed to make look different than other nurses and students from other schools. I thinks they make us look DORKY! :sniff:

I had hoped to be able to do that but the uniforms from the school have embroidery on them...they have the school name and then they say "student nurse". So I don't think I'd be able to duplicate it :crying2:

I had a Dove uniform for my clinicals. I only bought one -- it was all I could afford. And it actually held up very well for the entire 2 years. It was expensive and ugly -- but there were no complaints from any of my classmates about how they were made! I graduated in 2001 and we burned ours afterwards, we were so sick of them.

You don't know how glad I am to hear that! The uniforms that our school used last year were really awful. I was in pre-nursing then but knew plenty of people in the nursing program and their uniforms were tissue paper thin. They were HORRIBLE! The school got so many complaints from students about the uniforms that they decided to go with Dove this year because of the reputation of the company and how good the uniforms are supposed to be. They keep telling us that "we know they're more expensive but just trust us....they are MUCH better quality than the previous ones". I'm glad to hear that they know what they're talking about!

Mitch, We are required to buy 2 sets of "all white" uniforms and lab coat at a local uniform shop. The shop ships all the uniforms out to have the school logo embroidered on it, etc. They gave me a choice of the pant suit or the dress. The shop was over-flowing with really cute Nursing Uniforms (colorful scrub tops), etc. Our Student Uniforms are not "Cute", ha, ha - sort of big baggy things. Just a wild guess, we are meant to stick out like sore thumbs wearing uniforms that scream "I'm a Student Nurse" - don't ask me anything that I might not know the answer to...

After reading a lot of posts on here, I was afraid the uniforms would break the bank - but 2 sets of white pant suits, lab coat and embroidery cost about $125.00 and I didn't think that was too bad. I've worked in hospitals before and know that having an extra clean uniform is something I definitely want to have.

Do you remember MC Hammer pants? Those are the exact pants that my school expects me to wear this fall! Oh, I can't do it. I am 5'3 and those puffy pants with the huge waist band look horrible. I actually called my school and asked them if we had to buy them. Then I ordered 2 pairs of white flare pants.

:rotfl: My school's scrub pants have the big giant waistband too. I bought another pair that exactly matches the shade of navy blue but has the drawstring waist - SOOO much more comfortable. (but sshhh - don't tell!)

My school is also requiring its students to purchase their scrubs from Dove. 1 complete uniform is $118. Because of the tight budget I am only going to buy one and hope that it last through my first semester and then I will buy a second one for the spring semester. Like others my clinicals are only one day a week this fall.:)

ok, i have not seen our uniforms. i know at the price i paid, they should be made of gold threads though.

the company we use is nightingdale. (not sure of that spelling) do any of you use this company? should i brace myself for this ugliness also? i do know they are embroidered with our colors and logos. that was a little hope in the looks i guess. one hope is, that we are all looking the same, so we can look ugly together!!! :rotfl: :p

i was looking forward to getting mine, but now, im not so sure!!!! lol

only a short while in these uglys will bring us a lifetime of happiness (hopefully) lol

good luck to us all!

hmmm................i can't believe that some school require such expensive uniforms. we were told to buy our own just that they had to be white..................they weren't some much as ugly as they were see-through:o , i had to go buy those boy cut undies to wear to the hospital.............it was also nice that at the two uniform places were i bought mine they gave a discount with my id badge from school.

My school supplies us with one uniform, and we have the option to order more at the beginning of the year @ $60 a pop. We have clinicals every other week M-F. I've heard of students who made it through the whole year with just one uniform. If they can do it, so can you. Good luck!
