Unexpected kindness from a nurse

Today, my grandma and I were at a hospitals food area. we just entered the store, when two nurses walked in. (I plan to start pre-requisite courses for nursing this fall so I was trying to look carefully at their name badges to see if they had a Bsn or adn.) When the employee asked to take their orders, the nurse turned to us and told us that she thought that we were ahead of them and that we could place our order first. We were still trying to decide what to order so we told them to go ahead. When it was our turn to order we told the cashier what we had purchased and she said our bill was paid. Confused, we asked what she meant. She said that the nurse had paid for our food. Wow! What an act of kindness!

Although it is advantageous to have an advanced degree, in the end we are RNs.

yes, I totally agree. I think adns are more prepared for working. The problem is every nurse I've seen has a Bsn. I think Ca is a difficult place to find a job in, so Bsn are hired first.

Most hospitals don't put RN or RN,BSN on the badge. The hospital grandma is in right now does. Most don't. In the end ADN and BSN are both RN.

Aw, thats very sweet! I have had several experiences with very kind nurses. My favorite was when I went to get a mole removed...I was nervous and got there early because I wanted to get it over with. The nurse knew I was nervous and brought me a cup of hot tea in a mug from their breakroom while I waited for doctor to arrive :inlove:

It's the little things that can make such a big impact!

I suggest you take the BSN and become an RN. anyway, nice story though! you should have thank those nurses and ask advice about your plan of becoming a nurse

I did the same thing when I got hired in Southern California....looked around at name tags to see who was a BSN. I got hired as an ADN, but I was one of the very few. BSN is definitely a better degree to have around here- especially as a new grad. In Texas, it mattered very little.

My BSN co-workers are as prepared to work as I am ...or as any of my ADN cousins. Very few nurses graduate with amazing technical skills, but I've never noticed BSN nurses lagging in any way.
