I am in the usvi, and have been here nearly a year, maybe all the nurses who have posted their news about immigration, can now post about the differences in the us hospitals. I dont think that american doctors and nurses fully understand where we come from, and the working environment of the nhs, its only when we get here that we can understand the differences. I am sure that stateside hospitals are different even from here. and that they also vary from state to state, but maybe nurses who are waiting to come will be able to pick up some tips and know more than us what to expect.
christine....from wales to scotland to united states virgin islands, and then to the states, in january.
i noticed on another thread that there are posts about car parking at hospitals. as usual the uk are not in touch with the rest of the world, over here when a visitor comes to visit, they can drive to the door of the hospital where there is free valet parking. yes they just hand the car over and when they come back the valet will bring your car back to the door. there are designated spaces for staff, and sometimes even a multi storey car park. if its dark or you feel unsafe, you just call security and they will escort you to your car. maybe this is not in every hospital but i have seen it in quite a few. and never have i seen a hospital that charges car parking fees for visitors or staff.
Hi all. Can anyone help me? I have just passed the NCLEX and CGFNS and am now trying to find the best agency to sign up with to help me find a job and start the immigration process. Adevia seem to be the most helpfull so far. Does anyone have anything good or bad they can tell me to help with my decision? I keep reading about OGP but dont have a good feeling about them! Would really appreciate some advise. Cheers!

Hi,ANyone going to Florida and need to get a mortgage - either before you emigrate or after - PM me for details as I know a UK couple who have a mortgage business who have recently helped us with a mortgage - got us a fantastic rate and did a fab job in very very difficult circumstances.
We have got a house in Davenport which we have owned for 3 yrs now and recently got one in Vero Beach where my job is...so anything I can help there with let me know...as regards to working out there - well I am still here waiting patiently for NVC to send my stuff to the Embassy!!!

Hi Sue
I was interested to read that you bought a home in Fl. We absolutely love florida and plan to move there. We are gonig out there at Xmas to look at plots and properties (so excited! :monkeydance: ). Is there any advice you can offer us Sue, we would be really grateful. Also, did you find it very hard to secure a job out there?
thank you!

Hi, you are in a Buyers market at the moment so you should be able to get some sort of property or plot very reasonalbly but I would say go for a property rather than a plot of land as it could take forever to get your house built (unless of course you arent in a rush!)
Getting a job is easy...I have been out here 10 months now and on my 2nd job...I am not one for moving jobs but couldnt cope with 5 nights a week where I was sponosred to work...and I wont go into the long boring story of it all but needless to say I secured a job down the road with another hospital and now work 3 nights a week and much happier...infact I am going to go Per Diem for Home Health soon hopefully so...answering your question securing a job is not difficult....
If you are from UK I know our hospital sponsors people as they are sponsoring a friend of mine.....she isnt going with any agency either....
Hi Sue
That sounds promising :wink2:. I am from the UK (Kent) where surprise surprise there are no jobs :uhoh21: . I would be really interested to learn more about the sponsoring, I have not heard of that before? I can get some really good references too as I have had long placements so the people I worked with got to know me well which was really nice and I have kept in contact with a lot of them. I have just got a post at my local hospice just for bank work whilst I am finishing my training.
Thanks for the advice re the house, I only wish we had bought one years ago as the prices seem to have rocketed in the last 10 years!
Meant to ask, where abouts did you move to Sue?
Sunshine :wink2:
