uk nurses who have come to the usa

Published

I am in the usvi, and have been here nearly a year, maybe all the nurses who have posted their news about immigration, can now post about the differences in the us hospitals. I dont think that american doctors and nurses fully understand where we come from, and the working environment of the nhs, its only when we get here that we can understand the differences. I am sure that stateside hospitals are different even from here. and that they also vary from state to state, but maybe nurses who are waiting to come will be able to pick up some tips and know more than us what to expect.

christine....from wales to scotland to united states virgin islands, and then to the states, in january.

ogp told me i would no longer be with them once i signed contract directly with hospital, where i would then complete A 24 MONTH ONE WITH THEM??

the whole clause thing about owing them mega bucks is scarying me abit!!

i have been with my boyfriend for along long time and yes one day we do intend getting married but certainly not just to get a green card!! im aware the people who have done this have ruined it for the resr of us honest people eh!!

any ideas on what is next for me?? now that iave my nclex?

I think you may find that they have told you a little untruth or maybe you misunderstood them. Read your contract with OGP carefully I doubt they would give you to a direct hire but things may have changed. Where did you train? I have heard that if you trained in another country other than Uk and Southern Ireland that OGP give you longer contracts anyway but I have met Filopeans here who came through OGP via direct hire and signed for up to 3 years.

You will get paid more if you do direct hire and get paid vacation time

hey its me, busy in work again.

its not all bad working here, theres good nights and bad nights.

curlysin, i was only giving you a bit of advice, as to what the deal is with married couples, as there is such a shortage of nurses here, then the us government has agreed to sponsor nurses and their families including children up to the age of 21 with green cards.

i am sure thats theres nobody has come here with the intention of getting married to get the green card thru the nurse.

not that i know but if and when you get married, if you are the green card holder then its still difficult for your future husband to then get a green card to be with you.

you will not be a us citizen you will be a lawful permanent resident and as such dont have the same rights for bringing a new spouse into the country.

i trained in the north of ireland which is classed as the UK.

ogp told me that this is a new thing that they have only commenced this year. however its so hard to know if its the truth as they seem to be quite dishonest about alot of things.

its making me very apprehensive about the whole thing. and at times i feel so uncertain that im doing the right thing

any advice

There is good and bad in everything. For every good story re OGP I can find you a bad one and visa versa. My own story isnt a good one but I know people who's story is fine. I hope everybody doesnt ever have my experience. My immigration I couldnt have asked for anything better or quicker than with OGP all done and udsted in 10 months. However others have waited for years.

Maybe they are doing some direct hire with hospital which I feel would be better-they just work as recruiters and the hospital pays for everything. Which mean you get the same working conditions as the other hospital employees which can only be better.

Thank you :wink2:

hey curlysin, no offence was taken or meant, just trying to point out the ordeal of non nurses to get a green card.

[color=#2f4f4f]i have spoken to other brits who have come here on working visas and have eventually got green cards. after many years and many thousands of dollars.

[color=#2f4f4f]the only reason for the us offering green cards to nurses and their families is because there is such a shortage over here, and this is their way of getting around it.

[color=#2f4f4f]when there is no shortage, that option wont be offered to non us nurses.
