  1. hi there, i am a uk trained general nurse with a BSN and approx five years clinical experience in acute care setting (medicine). At present i am completing a MSN in anaesthesia, as we do not have any nurse anaesthetists the closest i could get was a Physicans Assistant in anaesthesia, however the programme is not like your Physicans Assistants programme, the programme/role is more like a nurse anaesthetists programme (hope that makes sense). As we dont have the same opportunities here for nurses i have sat my NCLEX and passed and have a US licence to practice. I would however love to go to CRNA school, what do you think?? Can you give me any advice on how i go about doing that? thanks for reading, hope you can help
  2. thank you for your reply, indeed i have thought of both of these options. if dont send it with a SSN and they count the form invalid im was afraid id not get my licence renewed in time before it expired. i think i will give them a call. thank you again
  3. hi there, i have not yet reached the US yet with waiting for immigration so im not in the US yet. you have to have a US licence to work before you can apply for immigration and can not get a SSN until you have immigration through. hope ive made sense.:)
  4. hi there, i am a UK nurse who has sat the NCLEX, passed and has a US new mexico licence. it expires at the end of May and i was wondering how do i renew it. i found a form on their site however it asks for social security number at the end which i dont have. i emailed the state but they have not yet got back to me. does anyone know what other foreign nurses do? thanks for reading, hope you can help
  5. now theres a wise women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. i was beside myself it was awful!!!!!! ill never forget the feeling though when i got the news id passed................ aaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhh it was great!!! what an achievement for all of us!!!!
  7. god english nurse that is a total nightmare!!!!!!!! pressure is right! your poor husband im sure he feels terrible. the USA are'nt half making it hard to get into their country.......... i really hope it all resolves itself as soon as possible!!!!!!!!!! retrogression is a nightmare, i havnt even got to that stage yet, my immigration is just being applied for and im worried ill be sooner than i want to be. hang in there:)
  8. yeah i thought this would cause abit of a debate its the old aged arguement between nurse vs doctors!!! i am an etremely good nurse im not being big headed but i am. i always look at my patient holistically to provide the best care i can, but i also think it is vitally important that nurses are well clued in to pathphysiology, biochem, pharma. especially in this day and age with sicker patients and an ageing population. i love the medical side of things and i would hope if i became a doctor i could bring along the nursing side of me to which may create the all round perfect practitioner??? the qualities of a nurse with the know how of a doctor, would that be the perfect practitioner?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. hi there, i hear vermont is easy and easy to transfer licences also. i know my filipino friends in work have done there research and thats who they went with.:)
  10. hi there, just thought id give you an eye opener that you are not the only one this happens to and it most likely has nothing to do with the fact you are american. when i first started nursing i came across a nurse who basically bullied me along with nearly all the other staff on the ward. i went through the proper channels and complained about her. anyhow short and long is that i was said to be toooooo sensitive and that i was to short in the tooth to deal with her personality. eventaully this horrible nurse left thank god everyone was so relieved!!! to this day i still bare the stigma that im too sensitive.... whatever!!! thats what i say how about human and not willing to tolerate that crap in work!!! anyhow regards to your skills everyone has to do there trust training in regards to cannulation. iv drug administration etc etc... this has to keep inline with CREST and NICE guidelines and also trust policy as trusts do not always have the same policies and procedure manuals. so im sorry you felt your years of experience where being called into question. these are all formailities and to be honest they are there to protect you also!!!!!!!!! prehaps if someone had of sat you down and communicated this to you, you may have understood better and not felt this way. the waiting list for these courses are huge and your put on the list and have to wait ,many a time a junior staff member or a filipino nurse may have got onto a course before me but i knew id get on at sometime and everyone needs to be trained. and you know what you are right the NHS is an organisation and bullying is indeed very much there, as in ALL NURSING. icarried out my research on bullying in the workplace and have first hand facts so im not ranting. but everywhere has always one or two nurses who want to bring you down or make you life hell but you know what thats there problem not yours. you have to learn to take that attuide or you wont survive. i would find it very hard to believe that there isnt one nurse on this forum who doesnt have a horrible person that works with them. if so itd be a miracle. anyhow your not alone, and im positive it wasnt racially motivated it was just circumstance and some very vicious nurses who are just horrible people!!! its a pity too because you obviously didnt get a taste of how good some places are to work and for that im sorry, because you have missed out!!!!!!!!
  11. you actually only need a diplomia in nursing to practice in the UK not a BSc. a BSc is obvioulsy a bonus but not necessary to practice.:)
  12. i got mine a week later!!! i remember feeling like you are now wondering how could i wait for a month to get my results. chances are you wont have to. like english nurse says whatever board you sat you can go on to there board of nursing website and check to see if a licence has been issued to you if it has you have passed!!! for example i sat my test on the 18th may and my licence was registered on 25th may. hope this is helpfull. if you need anything else just msg:)
  13. hi guys, just wanted to say thanks for all your reply's, funny how everyone has kinda wondered at some stage are they doing the right thing?? guess as someone else said thats why they call us human!!! the thing thats keeping me going is that there is a world of opportunities out there waiting to be explored and tested, and if it all goes belly up u just come home. it wont be the end of the world and youll not look back with regret that you didnt try. i dont have family or any friends out in the US just me and my significant other going. i hope that wont make it harder!!! i just want to say go apriljan!!!!!!!! keep the head up girl you're doing great. i hope you get your house sold asap so your hubby and son can be back with you!!!!!!!:)
  14. hi guys, wonder could you shed any light, im hoping not to be in the usa until the end of next year, my immigration hasnt yet been filed for but will be within the next couple of weeks, do you think thats realistic of me? i dont want to be there any sooner!! thanks in advance
  15. hi suzanne7575, its a controlled drug on my ward regardless of dose, its morphine!!! very strange, however different places may have different policies. you just keep yourself right and document, document, document.
