TWU Dallas Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

This is for students applying to TWU Dallas for Fall 2014 :)

Hey guys! I noticed that there wasn't a Fall 2014 page yet... Probably because its not for another year but I thought I would start one!

I'm currently attending North Central Texas College and I'm about to start my last semester of required prereqs, and I'm taking a CNA class this fall!

I've attended an open house at TWU Denton & Dallas; I absolutely love the campus and the staff seems so friendly! I'm really excited to attend TWU. Hopefully I'll be in Dallas for the nursing program, but if life does not take me in that direction--I'll make my way for a Physical Therapy degree!

I'm sooo excited to start nursing classes and spend time in the hospitals. I'm on this website all the time and I hope there are some people on here applying the same time as me so we can support each other :-)

Tell me about yourself!

TWU Dallas New Student Orientation is set for Friday, May 2nd.

Check your email. All the necessary paperwork has been sent out.

Glad to be able to meet you all soon !!

Quite the to-do list!! Off we go!!

Excited to meet you all at orientation and/or this fall!

Where is everyone coming from? What's your background?

Here's a bit about myself.

I'm starting in the fall as a 2nd degree seeker. Currently living in Spring (near Houston) but applied to Dallas because I hate it here lol, aaand my bf lives in Dallas :)

My 1st degree was in Media, Culture & Communication from NYU. I worked/lived there after college for a few years, then moved back to my dad's place to go back to school for an early career change, yea... life is so unpredictable...

Anyway, I did all my nursing pre-reqs at Lonestar College, got mostly A's and one B, I think. I retook A&P II one time to get my B up to an A. I also retook Chem to get my grade up from a C, I got an A in it the 2nd time around. The B was in Statistics.

For the TEAS, I think I got an 84.7% Honestly, I was slightly surprised I got in with that TEAS score; on forums it seemed like so many people got higher scores than that; there were even some that said they hadn't been accepted and had higher scores... What did everyone else get in with? I'm just curious ;)

How is everyone preparing for the program?

I'm thinking that I'll review A&P stuff a ton, re-read my pharmacology book (I took it because I originally planned on applying to Masters programs) and try to see if the Pathophysiology course is available in the summer at the Houston campus. It would be great to get it out of the way and have a less intense load in the fall. I'm not sure if it's possible though, do any of y'all know? Or have any of you done this?

Congrats to us and I really look forward to meeting y'all :)

Yes, life is very unpredictable !

I am also seeking my 2nd bachelors.

Work full time for a global logistics company here in Dallas. Started nursing pre-reqs about 2 yrs ago at Tarrant CC.

Currently in Patho. I plan on studying/reviewing Patho & A/P together before we start.

Excited/anxious/nervous about all of this. Ready to get started though.

Hey everyone!!

Im late to the posting, but got into Dallas Program. I have a 4.0 gpa on pre-reqs, no classes from TWU (currently in Patho), 80 on TEAS and took all the pre-reqs once... I have a previous degree from Texas Tech.

I see a letter about paperwork and orientation stuff that was supposed to come to my personal email (I received the email April 1 in my TWU account)... never got anything in my personal account like the email said. I emailed Ashley Bonner and called at 4 today and she was gone already.

Kinda confused and a little annoyed.

And now I see the paperwork was due April 7... can anyone forward the email to me?? [email protected]

THANKS!!!

Did you apply to TTU for nursing?

April !!! Go up to TWU Dallas as soon as you can and talk to Ms. Bonner.

I think they make it clear that all correspondence should be done through your TWU email and to never forward your TWU to your personal because of cases such as this.

Do you have any back up schools ?

Hello everyone!

I am planning to apply to TWU Dallas for the Spring 2015 term. I am completing my pre reqs this Spring Semester. I have 4/4 As for the preferences courses. My the end of this term I will have a 3.8+ GPA. I volunteer at Methodist Dallas Hospital. I haven't taken my TEAS V exam yet (I will 04/28), but i took the online practice one and got a 76.8% (without studying). What are my chances of getting into the program?? I'm freaking out about that TEAS V exam. :(

ALSO, this may I will be graduating with an Associates in Science from El Centro.

Hi Jenizv12!

If you aren't aware, they have changed the admission criteria. They will no longer be looking at first attempt A's (but it's still super awesome you got all 4!). They will now be looking at ONLY GPA and TEAS V scores (now you must get a score of 64% or greater on EVERY section, not just a total score of 64%+).

I assume these changes will make GPA more competitive than ever. If you have any C's or lower, I would suggest retaking the class at a community college during the summer to strengthen your GPA. A 3.8 GPA is great! But at TWU Dallas, the average GPA of students accepted is 3.8+. You have the most control over your GPA, the TEAS is variable because your grade will depend on how you feel that day and so on.

The TEAS online practice tests are terrible. I received a 70 and 77 on them and got a 91 on the actual TEAS. Don't stress too much about it is my advice. Some people overthink the math section and end up not having time to complete the section, just go through it as quick as you can, then go back and check your answers if you have time. The study guide by ATI is the real life saver!

Since they did change the admission criteria this March, they are allowing Spring 2015 applicants to take the TEAS V MORE THAN ONCE! Therefore, once you take it, if you aren't happy with your grade (and you have money to take another test), retake it for the highest grade possible. This opportunity is ONLY for Spring 2015 applicants. Traditionally, you are only allowed to take it once per admission cycle.

I can't tell you your chances of getting in but please don't be discouraged if you don't get in the first time. DFW's nursing programs are competitive!

Good luck with everything & congrats on your A.S. :)

Jenizv12--

P.S. It really helped me and gave me a peace of mind to speak to an adviser. I was a transfer as well. I transferred to TWU this spring semester so I could take Patho and I'm very glad I did, I encourage you to take it if you have the opportunity and get the 'OK' from an adviser when you speak to one.

I am aware of the changes concerning the # of times you can take the TEAS. I don't have any C's. I'm hoping my GPA will be higher than a 3.8...the only thing I do have is a W in Chem. But I'm taking it in Maymester and I will get an A so I don't think it will be a big issue. I'm also applying to UTMB of Galveston. Their requirements are a little lower, but ideally I'd like TWU Dallas. THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!! I'm going through the TEAS study guide and so far I'm ok. I'm just terrified of the Science section. In the practice online exam I got a 100% on Reading and Math. Science was my lowest.

I don't think I can take the Patho course at TWU because I'm currently at a community college and I'm applying to TWU in the Spring, so I wouldn't be able to register for Patho this Fall..could I? I'm going to wait until I have completed all my prereqs and then I'm going to go see a TWU Nursing advisor. I know it will give me a sense of peace haha

Again, thank you so much for your advice!! Good luck on your endeavors! :)
