Trouble for taking Doctors candy

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am a tech in a urology floor, I have had my ups and down and made my intention to transfer floor known to my HR and director. I agreed to work until the end of the current schedule. On 25th December, the Xmas decorations are already being taking down and hanging in the nursing station are socks filled with candy with dr names. Walking the hall way I saw a nurse with unit secretary eating candy and taking it away from the socks and I joined the party. They had pen in them and being in nursing school, I went hunting for the pens. We shared the candy among some nurses and kids that came visiting the patients. I took some candy for any kid I see and I honestly don't eat them at all.

Fast forward to 30th dec, rumors started that they are about to fire some worker for stealing candies and I was shook. I said I took some cos I didn't know it belongs to any and decoration are already being taken down and candy was inside the Xmas socks.

Called the HR this morning and he said " your manger said you can't transfer cos they caught you camera stealing candy, you need to settle that because is a big problem".

I dont even even know how to defend my actions, the nurse with me has gone to face panel about this and tomorrow they wil call me. How can I explain being fired over candy???

Folks we have been trolled!!!

I call BS!!! Shananegins for sure!

I don't think any of these statements really contradict with each other, imo.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Imagine telling your next job the reason you got fired was for "taking some candy from a stocking on the wall" 😂 the place you're working for sounds like a mess! I'd run far away, you don't want to work for a place like that. I also find it hard to believe a doctor would throw a hissy fit over candy, I can't even imagine any docs doing this at any places I have worked. Good luck!

We replied to a code in the cafeteria once...it was actually a cafeteria worker who was choking. She was mostly upset not because she could have died, but that we would tell her boss she choked on a piece of deli meat she ate from the salad bar and had not paid for it yet.

And recently the cafeteria called the police on someone who "took" cream cheese (to go with the bagel she bought). She thought it came with it and had forgotten it, went back to get it. We call this "the case of the missing cream cheese".

People need to think about actions before acting.

Gummy bears? If it was the Haribo ones (esp the ones in the tiny packages) it was totally worth it!!!

hmm

gummy bears are inferior to snickers but swiping from docs would make them more delectable

For that matter, wouldn't putting the offending candy at the nurses station be a cardinal sin in the first place? Food in a patient care area??? Somebody should be held responsible for that! ASSEMBLE A PANEL IMMEDIATELY!

And someone drop a note to Joint while they're at it.

off on a tangent - anyone remember when they used to have separate dining rooms for the physicians? Like does anyplace still have them?

Candy, eh. The pens though?! That is a sin. I am a sucker for a decent writing instrument.

I would lock the unit down and do a strip search if my favorite pen was stolen.

This thread has to be a elaborate troll. I would love to see a doctor complain to me about his or her candy, I'd make sure to set them straight. I've been blessed, however, almost all physicians I've worked with were kind, humble and a pleasure to work with.

Yes the hospital I used to work at still does it's for Docs, PAs and med student/ residents only.

I know someone married to a PA at that facility and even he thinks its stupid
