Trouble for taking Doctors candy

Published

I am a tech in a urology floor, I have had my ups and down and made my intention to transfer floor known to my HR and director. I agreed to work until the end of the current schedule. On 25th December, the Xmas decorations are already being taking down and hanging in the nursing station are socks filled with candy with dr names. Walking the hall way I saw a nurse with unit secretary eating candy and taking it away from the socks and I joined the party. They had pen in them and being in nursing school, I went hunting for the pens. We shared the candy among some nurses and kids that came visiting the patients. I took some candy for any kid I see and I honestly don't eat them at all.

Fast forward to 30th dec, rumors started that they are about to fire some worker for stealing candies and I was shook. I said I took some cos I didn't know it belongs to any and decoration are already being taken down and candy was inside the Xmas socks.

Called the HR this morning and he said " your manger said you can't transfer cos they caught you camera stealing candy, you need to settle that because is a big problem".

I dont even even know how to defend my actions, the nurse with me has gone to face panel about this and tomorrow they wil call me. How can I explain being fired over candy???

Maybe it was an experiment to see how many RNs would line up to offer stereotypical comments about physicians and their [assumed] concern about gummy bears or having stockings with their names on them.

I have no special dog in this fight; I just think it makes us look every bit as pathetic as the scenario in the OP.

I think this is real, I googled the OP, even if its not I love a scenario where candy is the biggest issue in facility.

Are you freakin' kidding me? Who the heck gives stockings to doctors anyway? They are so seriously put on such high pedestals it makes me sick, then to sock it to someone because they took some candy? The people running this place should be put on trial for insulting their hard working staff. Shame on them!

Yep that's the hardest part to swallow!!! I've been around some butt-sucking weasels but hanging stockings for docs with their names on it. That's Hall of Fame Ass-Kissing there

Oh man, I just pictured some fat doctor "feeling up" the gummy bears with a gross, snarly grin on his face, then walking away, only to have the next fat, gross doc sneak up, look around to make sure he is not being watched, and then sticking his nasty hands right in!

Actually I think I know some that would legit throw a fit about it.

Yeah I'm with you. Sometimes on the floor us nurses will order lunch for delivery. One of the residents just happened to be in the area and wanted in. No problem. So the delivery guy came and brought us our food. The resident ordered a special that came with a can of soda. The delivery guy forgot to bring the can of soda with the meal and this doctor went ballistic. He ran down 8 flights of stairs to try and catch the delivery guy to yell at him. Lucky for the delivery guy he was gone. I can't even tell you I was embarrassed FOR this resident. Flipping out over a dollar can of soda. Gee those student loans must be a killer. Needless to say we "forget to ask" this particular resident when we order food.

Just like the candy people can be THAT petty.

LOL, thanks for making me smile with this thread, real or not.

Here IS a true story: I once worked a couple of shifts at a small rural

hospital here in KY, for an agency. It seemed like a decent place to work,

however one CRAPPY thing that the administration at this hospital

would do:

Put a big ol' basket full of candy, chips, cookies, other goodies in the

dictation room right off of the nurses station, for the doctors, and expect

the nurses not to touch it! Which would have been fine if this dictation

room stayed closed and locked when the doctors were not there, but

like many hospitals, the dictation room was left open and unlocked!

Naturally, the nurses did sneak snacks from that basket on occasion.

I doubt seriously that the 1-2 doctors who worked that facility would

really care.

Mock not the Cat In the Damn Hat mere mortals lest ye be smote to Dr. Seuss Hades. Yet more nurse sinful thinking on display!!! Replacing candy with soy-based poo-poo!!! That is punishable by death my stoning with gummi bears.

Parsip based candy, and choco-dipped cat turds! That will show those doctors the love!

When I got fired from Nursing Home Hell, one stated reason was that someone found candy wrappers in the trash in a resident's room. Never mind that the charge nurse regularly brought in candy for the staff.

Get out while you still can. They're looking for a reason to get rid of you, and sooner or later they will find one.
