Totally Off Topic: Thanksgiving Menu

I would love to hear what everyone is serving for their Thanksgiving meal, or making, or if you are going out to a restaurant instead (we have done this three times and it is awesome).

I am hosting just my sister this year, so there will be me, my husband, my sister and my two kids (9 and 11):

Turkey

Stuffing

Gravy

Mashed potatoes

Cranberry Sauce

Sweet potatoes/marshmallows (sister bringing)

Roasted brussles spprouts with shallots and bacon

Corn souffle

Crescent rolls

Peacn pie (sister bringing)

Chocolate silk pie

We always do bagels and lox for breakfast Thanksgiving morning. In our town, the HS football team plays the town next door at 10am. We always go to that game, then come home and eat around 1 or 2 PM. No appetizers or anything b/c we do it as a lunch. Then of course Turkey gobbler sandwiches for dinner that night :)

What do you do?

We're doing Thanksgiving Day at my in-laws and Black Friday at my parents' house. My in-laws are always changing it up so it's a surprise what we'll be having. There's always turkey though. The sides change. We're bringing my husband's roasted shallot and rosemary mashed potatoes (so good!) and a couple of bottles of wine.

My parents are very traditional so we'll have turkey and cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, a big green salad and, hopefully, my mom's pecan pie!

While we are on the topic...

What is everyone's schedule like as far as work next week?

My kids are off all week. Staff has PD Monday-Wednesday with an early release (I think noon) on Wed.

This was strange to me when I was first hired. When I was a kid, we went to school M-W the week of Thanksgiving. And we walked to school with no shoes. In the snow. Uphill both ways.

Ahhh, I thought you had the recipe and made it yourself. I'll have to ask around work for a tried and true recipe.

This is how I remember it too. I don't know when they started adding in the Wednesday off.

I imagine soon we will have the whole week off as well to cater to vacation schedules. We have tons of kids who we already know will be out Monday and Tuesday of next week.

I'm not so worried about my Thanksgiving drink of choice - I am pondering do I make homemade aged egg nog for Christmas or coquito - or both??

Coquito,100%

I make it every year and give it out as gifts - people go crazy!

What is Coquito?

We usually have just me and my close family, no extended family for Thanksgiving.

Our menu is mostly the same, only we add dirty rice made with Savoie's mix- cause it just ain't a southern family dinner without something cajun :)

By the time we make everything we're tired enough to go to a restaurant. Any recommendations?

I come from a big family, but all my siblings are spending Thanksgiving with their kids and grandkids and inlaws - so its just going to be hubby and I and our three teenagers. I asked them each to pick out their favorite thanksgiving dish and then I got the ingredients and recipe and we are having each of them prepare their favorite dish. Even hubby is making his mom's apple pie recipe! I'm actually looking forward to it.. I also got the new game "watch ya mouth" which should provide great entertainment for after dinner.
