The camp I work at is in NY and they have counselors come in from Europe -they haven't made an announcement yet but I am not too hopeful for it happening.

It is ridiculous that you should have to call parents of high schoolers for everything other than a band aid. What if the student is 18? I have a much younger student population (pre k and K). If I were to call for every visit, I would get nothing done. Rather than call, I use an app called Remind. I can text parents and they can text me - I can also sent out a global message to all parents. not nearly as time consuming as calling, plus it has the added feature of translating - since most of the parents in my school speak spanish. The parents in my school seem to believe if they give their child tylenol/motirn and their fever goes down - they are no longer sick. I have made so many calls for a child not feeling well who has told me they took red medicine this morning - only to call the parents who say "she was fine when she left for school" and then of course their response is they are over an hour away and can't get to school to pick them up , nope no one else is available either. I have learned to respond " I would hate to have to call an ambulance - see if you can find someone to pick her up" - within minutes someone is their to pick up. works like a charm

I use an app called REMIND. most of the teachers in our school use it as well. Parents have to sign up for it and join your "class" but it works like a charm. It even has a translate feature for our non english speaking parents. I can do group texts as well as individual.

Here! I start back on August 30th, school starts Sept 6th.

I had one class with 9 kids with lice earlier in the year.. since then at least once a week i have a kid from that class with lice. None of the parents speak English in the class so I am having trouble getting my point across that they need to continually follow up; comb and retreat... ugh!! I can't wait for this year to be over!

I keep clear shoe bags with a pic of each child for the spacers/tubing and masks on the outside of my cabinet. Inside the cabinet I have original box of that meds came in with a label, and box also has pic of student. trying to post a pic of it, but it is not working.

We had a student that had missed so much school because she kept getting head lice. The mother kept her home stating that the treatment wasn't working but in reality, she couldn't afford the treatment. I contacted a local lice removal salon and told them about our student and they graciously offered to treat the entire family free of charge!

I sent out exclusion letters back in October and am happy to report I now have 100% compliance!!

I come from a big family, but all my siblings are spending Thanksgiving with their kids and grandkids and inlaws - so its just going to be hubby and I and our three teenagers. I asked them each to pick out their favorite thanksgiving dish and then I got the ingredients and recipe and we are having each of them prepare their favorite dish. Even hubby is making his mom's apple pie recipe! I'm actually looking forward to it.. I also got the new game "watch ya mouth" which should provide great entertainment for after dinner.

I am in NY. 300 k-pre k students and I am the only nurse in my school.

The district that I live in has an NP who oversees all the nurses in the district. She also does all the sports physicals

I am in a k pre-k center. We do a "Who Day Runway" where staff dress up as various storybook characters and during an assembly, the characters go down a runway while the librarian gives them clues from books they have read as to who it is. It's just adorable!

I am back on the 31st of August for staff development. School starts the 6th. I have been home inputting immunizations and physicals for 400 or so new students so I wont be overwhelmed trying to do it in school.
