Took my NCLEX today

Published

Well, I took my NCLEX this morning. It cut off at 75 questions so I either did pretty good or pretty bad.

I tell you, that test does not inspire confidence. Some questions would pop up and I though "I know this!" Other questions popped up and I though "I have absolutely no idea."

I got several drug questions, some with calculations, some about side effects. I got multiple prioritizing questions - which to see first, which to intervene in first, etc. I got a syndrome or two that I hadn't heard of before. It really makes you think . . . Got a couple fill in the blanks and a couple of those choose all that apply questions. The rest were standard format.

Anyway, I hope I passed. I'll post when I know.

I think the waiting is the hardest part. I'm on pins and needles. I keep checking FL licensure site and the Pearson site, but my results aren't posted yet. This is just agony!!!!!!!!

I remember a few more questions today now that I'm a little further away from the test. Prioritization (which patient to see first) probably took up the bulk of my exam. I got a couple of syndrome/diseases that I'd never heard of before and had to take an educated guess on. I got probably 5 pharmacology questions, one of which was a drug I hadn't heard of. Two math calculation fill-in-the-blank. I got some infection control questions. I got maybe 2 delegation questions.

I'm queasy waiting on the results. I think you should get the results instantaneously. It should be cruel and unusual punishment to have to wait on board results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:angryfire

Anyway, good luck to everyone! Best of luck to those who went over 75 questions!!! It doesn't mean you didn't pass, it just meant the computer needed a little longer to evaluate you!!! If you were really flunking it would have shut off at 75, so getting 75 questions is just as dubious a result as any other number.

It's just so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, thanks for all the support. It helps to read that there are other people out there in my shoes. I hate not knowing and being so unsure of myself!

This has put my life on hold as well for the last year. I switched from computers back into floor nursing and now may have to do some medical nursing depending on my results from today. Good luck to you.

thanks.......................................I still feel dumb though. I just want to see my results so I can stop guessing and plan my next steps. This sort of puts my life on hold

as a matter of principle, i'm not paying pearson the additional 8 dollars to see the unofficial results. what does it cost them to let you see it? nothing! you've already paid them $200. not to complain, but i can only take so much of a screwing. ::wakeneo:

nope. i'll just call the bon and ask them after 2 days

I felt the same way after i took the boards last april 12...my test stopped at 75 but thanks God I passed. What's so agonizing was the waiting coz my result came after 3 weeks! Dont lose hope yet guys...no use stressing yourself. The best thing to do is pray...and I'm praying for you guys to pass.

so how many days do you have to wait to see it on pearson? I thought it was the same,.......2 days.?????

AmyD

depends on your state board. minnesota is by far the most efficient state i've found. they'll put you on nursys the same day the results are in, which is 2 working days for them. after you're on nursys, you can get endorsement to a participating state much faster than you could apply directly, so minnesota is a big time saver, and it's not at all a bad deal for 105$. whoever runs that board should consider running for president, imo. i've never seen such a well run agency, with a fee so reasonable.

anyway, i know the computer is going to shut off at 75 and i'll pass, and if it took a month, i still wouldn't give pearson the 8 bucks. as a student, you're subject to ripoff after ripoff, and this is just another one.

As far as I am concerned principle has nothing to do with any of this. I have been licensed in the state of PA since 1993 and been working as a nurse, here in the states since 1988. Now, they make me take this ^^&&***%%%$$### exam ? I will gladly pay the $9.99 or whatever to find out when my life will be worth living again. Screwing is what this is about. Suck it in.

I am confused....why do you have to take this exam? are you not an RN?

I, too, thought it was a ripoff to have to pay $8 more for the quick results, which aren't even official. But today it's been 48 hours after the test and my BON didn't even have me in the system. So I said screw it, what's $8 more in this whole process so I can get on with my time off and relax, finally. And it said I passed! I would've waited, but I had a bad feeling for some reason. Oh well, worth the $8. I think they know people will pay to ease their anxiety--one more way to make money from the whole process. I don't see why we can't get our results when the computer shuts off--it already knows if we passed or not. I know it is so much better now than it used to be, but waiting sucks! We're spoiled in this age of technology.

I'm starting in CVSU, but they don't start their orientation until July, so I have a summer to start enjoying! Our nursing school went straight thru the year and before that I took my prereqs year round and I was working, so I can't wait to have summer off.:lol2: Of course, that means working on remodeling my house, but it sure beats nursing school.

To renew my visa I need a visa screening certificate.

Yes, I am an RN, NO I am not a permanent resident or citizen. They claim its because of 911. I think NOT and some people agree with me its a money grab. The CGFNS makes money, NCLEX makes money, Pearson makes money and the nursing review companies make money. During a time of an extreme nursing shortage our government passed a law stating all graduates of foreign nursing schools must take either the NCLEX and/or the CGFNS. Go figure.

Money grab or not I am not sure why you were aloud to work here and not have to take it before. If the test is good for all us nurses why not others from different countries with different laws and regulations? I am not saying you shouldn't work here but I think it should be fair across the board is all. I would still think this even if the test was free to take. Just goes to show you our country has crazy laws!

Just to cure my own ignorance did you take a nclex style test before and if so do you know if it is comparable? I know different countries have different methods of care and I was just wondering.

I am cringing as I submit this for I am not intending this to be an attack or a negative post it is purely out of my own curriosity!

thanks for replying!
