Took my NCLEX today

Published

Well, I took my NCLEX this morning. It cut off at 75 questions so I either did pretty good or pretty bad.

I tell you, that test does not inspire confidence. Some questions would pop up and I though "I know this!" Other questions popped up and I though "I have absolutely no idea."

I got several drug questions, some with calculations, some about side effects. I got multiple prioritizing questions - which to see first, which to intervene in first, etc. I got a syndrome or two that I hadn't heard of before. It really makes you think . . . Got a couple fill in the blanks and a couple of those choose all that apply questions. The rest were standard format.

Anyway, I hope I passed. I'll post when I know.

ps........I passed? I think thats what it said................but I dont believe it yet. And I still feel dumb. That test makes you feel dumb.

If you are inferring that things should be fair I totally agree. OK, I should not have been given the right in 1988 to practise nursing in the US without taking the NCLEX. One thing to not be allowed to work in the country, to me, its another thing to allow someone to enter the country, work in the country, plan one's life in the country THEN to change the rules of working with that license that alien uses for his livelihood in that country. How many 20 year veterans of nursing of the US system could pass this exam ? I know the DONs I have worked with readily admit they could not. They have moved on into management.

I took the Canadian boards which were thought of at the time to be equal to the American boards. Note: that even if I failed this exam I would still have an RN US license I just could not enter the country to work.

Thanks for the last sentence, I was kinda taking this as an attack.

Money grab or not I am not sure why you were aloud to work here and not have to take it before. If the test is good for all us nurses why not others from different countries with different laws and regulations? I am not saying you shouldn't work here but I think it should be fair across the board is all. I would still think this even if the test was free to take. Just goes to show you our country has crazy laws!

Just to cure my own ignorance did you take a nclex style test before and if so do you know if it is comparable? I know different countries have different methods of care and I was just wondering.

I am cringing as I submit this for I am not intending this to be an attack or a negative post it is purely out of my own curriosity!

thanks for replying!

Hey I feel you. I took mine yesterday, and I had 265 questions. Yep felt pretty lost. I studied really hard also. I felt at times I was out of my league. In nursing school I never had a problem, and now.....I am lost. I have not even checked my results, but feel I failed so why even bother. It is in God's hands. He must have a bigger plan for me.

yeah I meant nothing by it, I am fully for this country being what it was meant to be which was accepting for everyone but man they have to get there act together! I think it is unfair to say you were good enough one day but not the next and my mom is an excellent nurse for 25 years now and she will admit she would probably fail the test.

Passed. Whew, happy I stuck this out !!!! It was a stretch for me.

Many choices, too many to make a decision today.

Yesterday I thought it was ridiculous to pay Pearson ten bucks to see my results. Then I took the NCLEX this morning. You can bet your sweet bippy I'm paying if they have results up before my state BON!!! I shut off at 75 and I'm looking over my shoulder to see if they've sent a hitman to keep me away from patients!

pearson told me 2 working days, but minnesota bon told me they issue you a license # 2 days after you test. so i'm going through the bon.

yes, it is a screwing for another 8 bucks, and it pisses me off. pearson is a heavy handed company and they nail you any chance they get.

i suppose if i had to wait an extra week, i'd cough up the 8 bucks. i'm not a cheap person, but i don't see why they need to rip you off for something that's totally automated.

hey guys....

i want to join in the club!!! i also took my nclex-rn exams last tuesday. mine shut off at 75 questions. i find the test difficult..waaa:uhoh3: i had a lot of check all that apply maybe 6-8 questions or more... :o i had a lot of pririoritization questions like.."essentially,which to attend first, priority in the situation, delegation" i dont have any drug computations but had a lot of isolation precautions...:uhoh3:

guys, i want to know your opinion on this... how did i do with the exam???

the suspense is killing me..i have to wait for approximately a month to obatin my results (ca-bon). i badly need some words of encouragement right now....

shoo, my test was pretty much exactly like yours in 75 questions and the types of questions. i'm not freaking over it. i'd say there is an extremely high chance you passed.

really???

its pretty much a sigh of relief for me hearing such input from you traumahawk...i am already counting days for the arrival of my"golden envelope"or should i say my verdict...huhuhuhuhu....

please continue to give me feed back you guys in this forum...
